Alfaro-Burgos,S.

Determination of Lateral Ventricle and Brain Volume in Children with Stereological Method Using MRI International Journal of Morphology
Karacan,Keziban; Kosar,Mehmet Ilkay; Çimen,Mehmet; Solak,Orhan; Sahin,Bünyamin.
Although brain development is most active during the intrauterina period of life, the processes of myelination and arborization affect the structure of the brain throughout childhood and adolescence. Brain development is also very active in the early years of a child's life, and continues to be so for approximately 15 years after gestation. Volumetric changes in the brain are effected by sex. Understanding the variability of human brain volume during development is important for the interpretation of childhood neuroimaging studies. Hence the aim of this study is to determine the effects of sex difference on brain volume (BV), lateral ventricle volume (LV) and the ratio of brain volume and lateral ventricle volumes as a percentage (RLBV%) of 90 healthy...

Characterization of the Uterus and Mammary Glands of the Female African Giant Rats (Cricetomys gambianus, Waterhouse) in Nigeria International Journal of Morphology
Akinloye,Adebayo Koyuum; Oke,Bankole Olusiji.
Morphology of the uterus and mammary glands were studied in sexually matured female African giant rat. The uterus was identified as being duplex, having two separate uterine horns and two cervices. The two cervices were partially fused and separated by a mid-saggital septum. Their thick musculatures projected caudally into the vagina as the portio vaginalis uteri. The results also showed that eight mammary glands, distributed along the lateral aspects of thoracic and inguinal regions, were present. The thoracic and the inguinal regions had four mammary glands each and were arranged in two pairs of cranial and caudal rows. These findings fill some gaps created by the dearth of information on the reproductive biology of the female African giant rat.

Histomorphometric Changes in the Testes and Epididymis of Wistar Strain Albino Rats Following Fourteen Days Oral Administration of Therapeutic Doses of Some Antibiotics International Journal of Morphology
Awobajo,F. O; Raji,Y; Akinloye,A. K.
Studies on testes and epididymis tissue of rats treated orally for fourteen days with therapeutic doses of cloxacillin (6mg/100g/day), ampicillin (4mg/100/day) and tetracycline (12mg/100g/day) separately showed a significant reduction in testicular and epididimis architecture. Microscopic studies of these male reproductive organs further revealed a significant alteration in the epididymis as revealed by a significant reduction (p<0.05) in epididymal ductular diameter (EDD), and epididymal epithelial height (EEH) in treated group of animals. A significant increase (p<0.05) was however recorded in epididymal luminal diameter (ELD) in all the animals after the two and three week's recovery period allowed. This gives another insight into the toxicity...

Variant Inferior Root of Ansa Cervicalis International Journal of Morphology
Babu,B. Prakash.
Ansa cervicalis is a loop of nerves found in the anterior wall of the carotid sheath in the carotid triangle of neck innervating infrahyoid muscles. Its superior root has fibres from the first cervical nerve that leaves the hypoglossal nerve and joins the inferior root formed by the branches from the second and third cervical nerves. The two roots join to form ansa cervicalis. The ansa cervicalis nerve formation is relatively complex, as its course and location along the great vessels of the neck vary. In the present case on the left side of an adult male cadaver the inferior root was absent and the contributions from C2 and C3 were joining independently with the superior root of ansa to form ansa cervicalis. However no such variation was found in the ansa...
