Chemical composition of lipids from native and exotic fish in reservoirs of the state of Ceará, Brazil Animal Sciences

 Current study analyzes the chemical composition of lipids in fish commonly found in the dams of the state of Ceará, Brazil, namely Pterygoplichthys pardalis (bodó), Hoplias malabaricus (traira), Cichla ocellaris (tucunaré), Prochilodus brevis (curimatã) and Oreochomis niloticus (tilapia). The animals were collected during the summer and Folch extraction procedure was used for the extraction of lipids, whilst Iupac methodology (International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry [Iupac], 1987) was used to methylate the fatty acids. Methyl esters were analyzed by GC/MS and the different components in fish oil were identified. Histochemical analysis of stem and fiber of ramie (Boehmeria nivea (L.) Gaud var. Murakami) Biological Sciences

 Analyzes of samples of stem and fiber Boehmeria nivea var. Murakami were performed to increase information on the plant and disseminate its multiple possibilities of use. The histochemical analyzes with dyes and reagents showed the presence of lignified, suberous and cutinized cell walls with Safranin in the xylem region. The presence of pectin-cellulose with Astra Blue was confirmed in the regions of fiber bundles (cortex). In all regions of the stem were identified substances such as fat and mucilage with Methylene Blue evidencing high concentrations in the regions of fiber bundles and bark (violet blue). The objective of the study was to evaluate the potential of near infrared reflectance (NIR) spectroscopy as a rapid method to predict the chemical composition of forage in broad-based calibration models. In total, 650 samples representing a wide range of chemical characteristics, phenological states and origins were scanned in an NIR instrument. Thermal properties of canola pods including coefficients of thermal conductivity, thermal diffusivity and specific heat and chemical composition of rapeseed pods were measured at three levels of conventional canola varieties cultivated in the north of Iran (Hyola 50, Hyola 401 and Hyola 420) and in three times before harvest, while harvest and post-harvest. Assessment of the main sources of variability of soybean (Glycine max) expeller composition and quality: a field study CIGR Journal

Pairs of soybean seeds and their correspondent expeller samples were collected from ten extrusion-expelling processing plants in Argentina. Seeds were analyzed for proximal composition, bulk moisture content (MC) and individual seed MC. Expeller were analyzed for proximal composition, bulk MC, protein solubility in KOH, expeller urease activity and free fatty acid content. Results indicated that average soybean composition was 136 g/kg MC, 207 g/kg oil and 391g/kg crude protein (CP), while the oil extraction efficiency (OEE) of the process was of 60.7%. Pennisetum purpureum has an extended use as forage and further knowledge related to the seasonal influence and fertilization could improve its cultivation. The effects of dry and rainy season and application of fertilizers (200-60-00), on the yield of four varieties of P. purpureum (Taiwan, OM-22, Maralfalfa, CT-115), and a homogeneous mixture of them were evaluated. ABSTRACT This study aimed to characterize the volatile composition and sensory characteristics of virgin olive oils (VOOs) from eight olive cultivars grown in the southeast region of Brazil. The volatiles were extracted by Solid Phase Micro Extraction (SPME) and analyzed by Gas Chromatography coupled to MassSpectrometry (GC-MS). The dominant sensory attributes were determined by Temporal Dominance of Sensations (TDS). C5 and C6 alcohols and C6 aldehydes were the most abundant volatiles in the investigated VOOs. Response of Paenibacillus polymyxa to iron: alternations in cellular chemical composition and the production of fusaricidin type antimicrobial compounds BABT

In this work, growth, cellular chemical composition and production of fusaricidin type antimicrobial compounds by P. polymyxa SQR-21 were compared in tryptone broth supplemented with four concentrations of iron (25, 50, 100 and 200 µM). The data revealed that the growth of P. polymyxa SQR-21 was increased by 3-8% with the increase in concentration of ferric ion (Fe3+). The production of fusaricidin type compounds was increased by 33-49% only up to 50 µM Fe3+ and the highest level of Fe3+ was inhibitory. Chemical compositon of three microalgae species for possible use in mariculture BABT

The purpose of this study was to determine the chemical composition of Chaetoceros gracilis, Cylindrotheca closterium and Tetraselmis gracilis, species frequently used as food for aquaculture in the northeast of Brazil. The species were grown in f/2 medium, in carboys, aerated from one liter, with constant illumination and analyses were made in late exponential growth phase. Cellular density (8,447 x 10 6 cell.L-1), soluble carbohydrates (0.10±0.01 mg.L-1) and magnesium (14.78±0.08 mg.L-1) were the highest in C. gracilis. Chemical composition of Ulvaria oxysperma (Kützing) bliding, Ulva lactuca (Linnaeus) and Ulva fascita (Delile) BABT

Chemical composition of three species of Chlorophyta, Ulva lactuca, Ulva fasciata and Ulvaria oxysperma, was determined. Ulvaria oxysperma showed humidity (16-20%), ash (17-31% dry-base), proteins (6-10%db), lipids (0.5-3.2%db), fibers (3-12%db) and carbohydrates (46-72%db) which corresponded to 192-270 kcal.100g-1 (wet-base). U lactuca (15-18%db) and U fasciata (13-16%db) revealed grades slightly higher for proteins, but with similar energetic contents (250-272 and 225-239 kcal.100g-1), respectively. The cultivation of Pleurotus pulmonarius was carried out on different substrate: cotton waste (A) leaves of Cymbopogon citratus (B) and leaves of Panicum maximum Jacq. (C). The mushroom had a varied chemical composition; nevertheless they contained a good composition for to be used as a good source of protein for human kind. Chemical composition of Rhodocyclus gelatinosus biomass produced in poultry slaughterhouse wastewater BABT

Rhodocyclus gelatinosus R1 grew photoautotrophically in poultry slaughterhouse wastewater inside glass columns (90x670 mm) during 7 days at 31 ± 4ºC, under anaerobiosis and lightness supplied by daylight plus 3 (100W) incandescent and 4 (40W) fluorescent lamps. The culture was centrifuged (4,500xg/20 min) and lyophilized to originate a bacterial biomass with 7.1% moisture content. Chemical composition investigation showed 67.6% crude protein, 27.6% total carbohydrate, 0.6% lipids and 4.2% ash (dry weight). Commercial cuts of Pantanal caiman meat according to sex Ciência Rural

ABSTRACT: This study evaluated the yield, color, and chemical composition of commercial cuts (tail, sirloin cut, back fillet, and thigh) of Pantanal caiman meat in both sexes. The yield of tail was higher than other cuts, and the yield of females (17.0%) was higher than males (15.9%). The thigh of males had lower protein content (20.8%) compared with other cuts. Females showed a higher lipid content in the tail (2.4%) and thigh (0.8%) compared with males (1.7% and 0.4%, respectively). The tail presented the greatest content of monounsaturated fatty acids (45.2%) and higher n6/n3 ratio (4.6).
