DETERMINANTS OF INVESTMENT FLOWS IN U.S. MANUFACTURING AgEcon
Brown, Jason P.; Florax, Raymond J.G.M.; McNamara, Kevin T..
The purpose of the paper is to test the long-run steady state of growth factors hypothesized to influence U.S. manufacturing investment flows. These factors include agglomeration, market structure, labor, infrastructure, and fiscal policy. Spatial cross-regressive and spatial Durbin models are used to measure the spatial interaction of investment flows. Spatial spillovers are found to be of a competitive nature at the state level, implying that a factor which attracts more investment to a particular state is associated with lower investments in neighboring states. Investment flows to states with higher market demand, more productive labor, and more localized agglomeration of manufacturing activity.

Between markets and policy: farm household's reaction to decoupling AgEcon
Gomez y Paloma, Sergio; Raggi, Meri; Viaggi, Davide.
The main objective of this paper is to evaluate ex post the effects of 2003 decoupling, with a specific focus on farm investment behaviour. In the past years a number of studies have addressed the issue of the impact of EU policy reforms. However, long term effects of policy changes and related impacts on structural and investment behaviour received relatively little attention in modelling exercises concerning CAP reform up to now. This study is based on a survey about 250 farm households in Italy, Germany, Poland, Spain, Greece, The Netherlands, France and Hungary. In the majority of cases, farmers stated they were indifferent to decoupling. Where any change occurred, the impact of decoupling was highly differentiated. Differences in reaction are better...

CAPPELLO,FERNANDO PEREZ; SPÓSITO,MARCEL BELLATO; OSAKI,MAURO.
ABSTRACT Niagara Rosada is the main cultivar of table grapes produced in São Paulo state. Study of the sweet chili pepper (Capsicum chinense) production system in the Caribbean region of Colombia: a technological and socio-economic perspective Acta Agron. (Palmira)
Martínez-Reina,Antonio María; Todececilla,Lilibet; Rodríguez-Pinto,María del Valle; Cordero,Carina Cecilia; Grandett-Martínez,Liliana María.
Abstract The objective of this work was to characterize technologically and economically the sweet chili pepper production system in the Caribbean region of Colombia. A survey was applied to 60 farmers using the simple random sampling technique. The economic returns were analyzed in the producing areas of San Juan del Cesar, in the department of La Guajira, and Ponedera, in the department of Atlántico, with an average of 0.6 hectares of the areas used for planting the sweet chili pepper. The average age of the farmers is 51 years old, with more than 11 years of experience in this crop. The results present differences in terms of production efficiency; for example, it was found that it is higher for the town of San Juan del Cesar, which is explained because...
