| Vegetables with a high nitrogen demand such as cauliflower may cause intensive leaching of nitrate to the environment in conventional as well as in organic production. In organic cropping systems, the use of an in-season living mulch may decrease the risk of nitrate leaching after harvest when left growing in the field to the end of the leaching season in spring. | Analisou-se a relação entre adubação mineral e orgânica sobre a incidência de míldio (Peronospora destructor) em cebola (Allium cepa). O trabalho constituiu-se de dois experimentos localizados em Ituporanga, conduzidos entre agosto e dezembro de 1998. | O presente trabalho teve como objetivo avaliar a influência dos diversos ritmos da Lua sobre o rendimento de cenoura semeada em diferentes datas, sob as mesmas condições de manejo, em propriedade de agricultura familiar com manejo biodinâmico, em Botucatu-SP. Os tratamentos foram as datas de semeadura, que variaram de 5 de maio até 4 de junho em 2005, e de 25 de abril a 25 de maio, em 2006. A colheita ocorreu aos 82 dias após cada semeadura, sendo avaliadas a massa fresca de raízes e de folhas, e massa seca de raízes. Foi utilizada a metodologia de avaliação estatística do cálculo do Índice Estacional. | An experiment was performed to study the significance of rooting depth of four vegetable crops on their utilization of green manure nitrogen (N). Rates of rooting depth development were estimated as approximately 0.2, 0.7, 1.2 and 1.2 mm day C)1 for onion, carrot, lettuce and cabbage, respectively. At harvest, onion and lettuce were found to be shallow-rooted with final rooting depths of only 0.3 and 0.6 m, respectively, whereas carrot and cabbage reached rooting depths of at least 1.1 m. | Im ökologischen Landbau stellen der Beikrautdruck, die N- und Humusversorgung zentrale Probleme der Fruchtfolge dar. Ertrag, Ertragssicherheit und der Pflegeaufwand werden davon direkt bestimmt. Leguminosenhaltige Grünbrachen in der Fruchtfolge mindern besonders den Unkrautdruck und verbessern die Humusbilanz. Ihre N-Wirkung fällt dagegen bisher unbefriedigend aus, da der oft kurzfristig hohe N-Bedarf der Gemüsepflanzen nicht gedeckt werden kann. | O desempenho agronômico da berinjeleira foi avaliado em cultivo agroecológico, comparando-se espécies de gramínea e leguminosa perenes para cobertura viva do solo. O experimento foi conduzido no município de Seropédica-RJ, no delineamento de blocos casualizados, com parcelas subdivididas e três repetições. Foram avaliadas as coberturas vivas do solo com amendoim forrageiro (Arachis pintoi), grama batatais (Paspalum notatum) e preparo convencional do solo (controle). | Versuchsbericht zum Ertragsverhalten von Anis im ökologischen Anbau: Die Kultur von Anis zeigte sich im Versuchsjahr 1999 mit überwiegend niederschlagsarmer, warmer Witterung als relativ unproblematisch. Lediglich der Pilzbefall zur Reife bedeutete Ertrags- und Qualitätseinbußen. Mit 4,1ml/100g i.T. lag der Gehalt an ätherischem Öl weit über dem geforderten Mindestgehalt von 2% laut DAB 9. |

| One of the main constraints of organic vegetable production is lack of available N, which causes reduced yields and quality of the to the crops. Therefore, we started an organic vegetable crop rotation in 1996 where we could study the possibilities for improved N utilisation. The N supply to the crops is based on the effects of nitrogen catch crops, green manure crops and crop sequences aimed at a high utilisation of precrop effects, whereas no input of any manures are made. Measurements and experiments have been made within the crop rotation to test the effectivenes of the N strategies used.
