Prabhakar,J; Priya,M. S; Doss,L. Jones Tarcius; Sukumaran,V. G.
The aim of this study was to radiographically investigate the curve existing in slightly curved mesiobuccal canal of mandibular first molar by applying Piecewise straight line approximation. Extracted human mandibular molars were radiographed and one hundred radiographs were selected whose mesiobuccal canal showed slight curvature (10-20°) according to Schneider's method. The curves were traced and analyzed using Piecewise straight line method. Each curve was considered as a unit consisting of six different pieces of straight lines joining at seven specific points and the angle of curvature at these points was determined using the slope formula. All curves analyzed in this study had varying degrees of curvatures at different points on the curve. Maximum...

Simultaneous Occurrence of Three Anatomical Variations: Anomalous Right Subclavian Artery, Non-Recurrent Inferior Laryngeal Nerve and Right Thoracic Duct International Journal of Morphology
Peña,Elizabeth; Zúñiga,Janneth; Baena,Gloria.
In one male cadaver of Colombian nationality, dissected by a group of medical students during a gross anatomy course at the Universidad del Valle in Cali, Colombia, three anatomical variations were found: an anomalous or aberrant right subclavian artery (ARSA), a non-recurrent inferior laryngeal nerve and a right thoracic duct. The aortic arch gave origin to four instead of three arteries, which, from right to left, were the right common carotid, the left common carotid, the left subclavian and the right subclavian arteries. The anatomical variation of the right subclavian artery is known also as lusoria artery, in which case the artery passes behind the esophagus and the trachea in its course towards the right side of the neck. The perimeters of the...

Preservation of Haemal Nodes Fixed by Means of Two Different Aldehyde Fixatives: a Scanning Electron Microscopic Study International Journal of Morphology
Guerrero,F; Cerutti,P; Marcaccini,A.
Glutaraldehyde is the fixative most commonly used in electron microscope studies of biological tissues, however it is often necessary to use samples which were not fixed in this fixative, even with the usual uncertainty of the results that may be obtained. The fixation is the more delicate step of the sample processing. Therefore in this work, the quality of preservation of haemal nodes fixed with two classic aldehyde fixatives: formaldehyde and glutaraldehyde we have compared under the scanning electron microscope. Our results showed that both fixatives were successful in preserving the morphology of haemal nodes components; however glutaraldehyde conferred satisfactory results mainly in the preservation of parenchymal cells, whereas formaldehyde was...
