| The Rift Valley between 36° 42'N and 36° 55'N in the Atlantic Ocean is 31 km wide, with half-widths of 12 and 19 km for the western and eastern sides respectively. Both outer edges of the Rift Valley stand about 1500 m above an Inner Floor where very fresh pillow lavas occur. The Inner Floor probably includes the locus of new crust ; and its bordering slopes, which are particularly well-defined on the western side, limit to less than about 2.5 km the width of the zone over which new crust may have evolved with little or no vertical displacement. | Since 1967, albacore fishermen have been involved in the studies on fishery, recording their observations in fishing logbooks. This work is conducted under the authority of the Interprofessional tuna committee and studies have been carried out from 1967 to 1969 driven by the late professor Postel, and then taken over in 1969 by the CNEXO. The fishery is exploited mainly by a fleet of 300 French tuna boats and 1 000 Spanish tuna boats using mobile lines and living bait. It occurs over the summer season, from June in an area comprised between the Gibraltar straight and the Azores Islands until the end of September along the Franco-Irish continental shelf. |

| Two new species of Asellota Isopoda of the mediterranean deep-sea fauna are described in this article : Pseudomesus bispinosus sp. n. collected from the western mediterranean abyssal plain, and llyarachna medorientalis sp. n. collected from the Matapan trench and the Aegean sea. The genus Pseudomesus is new for the Mediterranean. The great vertical distribution of I. medorientalis sp. n. is in accord with the eurybathic nature of mediterranean benthic deep-sea species. | The current legal regime governing marine farms reflects what French shellfish culture used to be: an artisanal, traditional and family activity. Even if this profession is of social importance, it has never really been taken into account in coastal management decisions. This is the reason why, if aquaculture must expand, the whole related legal regime has to be adapted to the new needs of a profession which is still trying to find itself. New links will develop with the responsible authorities. Conflicts of a new type will rise between the different coastal and marine space users. A rethinking of the standard public property regulations seems necessary. |

| We presented in a previous work our results on the growth, longevity, size and age of the first sexual maturity, and the vertebral formula of the North Atlantic goatfish, obtained in 1933. Its growth has been calculated based on the position of the winter striate on the scale (Lea method) and checked using the frequency chart of the sizes measured in the winter (Petersen method). We aimed to find a confirmation of these data on the growth and the migrations of the species through marking. |
