Effect of cooking on the bioactive compounds and antioxidant activity in grains cowpea cultivars Rev. Ciênc. Agron.

ABSTRACT The present study evaluated the effect of cooking on the levels of bioactives compounds and antioxidant activity in grains cowpea cultivars. The analysis were performed on the raw samples and after cooking in pressure cooker. Regarding the bioactive compounds present, the grain cultivar BRS Aracê exhibited the highest levels of total phenolic compounds (mg/100 g) both before and after cooking, 205.10 ± 2.89 and 150.62 ± 2.64, respectively. Spermine and spermidine were identified in the cultivars (mg/kg) BRS Milênio in the amount of 120.5 in crude and 50.4 in cooked grain, in the BRS Tumucumaque in the amount of 116.2 in crude and 47.9 in cooked grain, exhibited significant losses of these compounds after cooking. Objetivou-se com este trabalho avaliar níveis e formas de aplicação de nitrogênio sobre a produtividade e a qualidade fisiológica de sementes de feijão caupi. O trabalho foi desenvolvido no Campus do Pici da Universidade Federal do Ceará. As parcelas foram constituídas por seis linhas de 5 m espaçadas em 0,5 m, sendo a área útil às quatro linhas centrais desprezando-se 0,5 m em ambas as extremidades. A densidade de semeadura foi de 12 sementes m-1. Nessa etapa obteve-se a produtividade de sementes. The aim of this work was to evaluate the properties and gene expression of isoforms of β-galactosidase, isolated from the stems of seedlings of the cowpea cv. Pitiuba, at different stages of development and sown in the absence and presence of NaCl. Seeds were sown onto sheets of filter paper soaked in distilled water (control) and a 100 mM NaCl solution. The plants were collected at the III (ED III) and VIII (ED VIII) stages of development. Isoforms of the enzyme β-gal I, II and III presented molecular weights of 89, 146 and 124 kDa respectively, and the same pH (4.0) and optimum test temperature (55 °C) under all the conditions studied. The genotypes selection for drought tolerance is very important for world food production, principally in arid regions or sites with irregular rain distribution. The objective of this work was to identify cowpea genotypes with drought tolerance and water stress sensitivity characteristics. Two experiments were carried out with 20 treatments and four replications, one under water deficit during reproductive phase and another one under full irrigation. The water deficit was obtained applying half the water depth required by cowpea. The leaf area index, chlorophyll content, grain components and grain yield were evaluated. This study aimed at verifying the effect of genotype x environment interaction on the relative contribution of yield components and final production of different cowpea genotypes. For this, data of yield components of 22 cowpea genotypes were evaluated in four environments in the State of Ceará. A one-way ANOVA tested the variability between genotypes and the Scott-Knott test compared the mean values of the genotypes. The correlations were estimated by a path analysis. ABSTRACT The aim of this study was to evaluate the agro-economic efficiency of intercropping carrot with cowpea-vegetable in relation to the amounts of biomass of Calotropis procera (Ait.) R.Br. (known locally as flor-de-seda) incorporated into the soil, and to different spatial arrangements. The study was carried out under field conditions from August to November of 2014, at the Experimental Farm 'Rafael Fernandes' of the Rural Federal University of the Semi-Arid (RFUSA), in Mossoró, in the State of Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil.
