Fertilizer application and weed control methods were compared to determine the best method for organic sugarcane production under supplemental irrigation at BSI farm. The experimental design was 2x5 factorial in RCB with 3 replications. The first factor was two sorts fertilizers as followers of fertilizer application, there being kinds BSI organic fertilizer at the rate of 200 kg/rai and chemical fertilizer (basal application with 15-15-15 at the rate of 50kg/rai). The second factor was 5 weed control methods which consisted of 1) intercropping with cowpea 2) hand weeding 3) cultivated by using rotary plow attached to small tractor (24 hp) 4) covered interrow of cane by using plastic and 5) herbicide application as farm practice. The results indicated that... |

Growing demand for native tree seedlings will require improvements in quality standards of production processes through the use of more efficient cultivation techniques. This study evaluated the effects of different doses of controlled release fertilizer (CRF) and different container volumes in the production of Parapiptadenia rigida seedlings. We examined the effects of five different concentrations (0, 3, 6, 9 and 12 g L-1 substrate) of CRF (18-5-9 NPK) and three different container volumes (50, 110 and 180 cm3) on seedling height (H) and collar diameter (CD) measured monthly for seven months and then calculated H/CD ratios. After 210 days of growth, the dry masses of the aerial portions, root systems, and total masses were determined, as well as the... |

The application of organic fertilizer to the soil is considered as good agricultural practice because it improves the fertility of the soil and plant quality. The aim of the study was to produce compost tea using poultry droppings, cow dungs and water leaf (Talinum triangulare) in a ratio 5:5:1 and evaluate its effects on soil properties, growth and yield of Amaranthus hybridus. The study was carried out in Jalingo, Taraba State, North-Eastern Nigeria in July, 2019. The experimental variables include control (no treatment), 1 kg of compost per 10 L of water compost tea, 1 kg of compost per 20 L of water compost tea, 1 kg of compost per 30 L of water compost tea, 500 kg ha-1solid compost and 500kg ha-1 NPK fertilizer. The treatment combinations were done in... |

A field experiment carried out at the research farm, Gorgan University of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources, Iran, in 2013. The main objective of the present study was to determine the effect of plant densities, fertilization rates and furrowing on yield and some morphological characteristics of soybean. The other objective of this study was, if pod packaging phenomena did not happen; can be used from morphologic advantages of this plant as replacement strategy and as foraged soybean or not. Therefore, an experimental design laid out in a randomized complete block design arranged in a split plot factorial with three replications. The main plots attributed to planting density at three levels (100000, 150000 and 200000 bush ha-1). The sub plots... |

This study was conducted to evaluate the effect of polymer used with different nitrogen and potassium sources on the growth and nutrition of chrysanthemum (Dendranthema grandiforum, var. "Virginal") and on chemical characteristics of substrate. Two substrates were evaluated: 1) composite with 50 % organic soil, 45 % sand, and 5 % composted tobacco; 2) plow layer soil (0-20 cm depth; red oxisol typical dystrophic). The experimental design was a factorial (4x2x2) and included four polymer rates (0, 1, 2, and 4 g kg-1of substrate), two nitrogen ((NH4)2SO4 and (H2N)2CO), and two potassium (KCl and K2SO4) sources. Dry biomass, flower number, and concentration of K, Ca, and Mg were evaluated. Inverse relationships between polymer rates and plant biomass,... |

The utilization of rocks as fertilizers is limited by their low solubility. However, solubilization may be achieved by some micro-organisms, such as ectomycorrhizal fungi (ECMf). The aim of this study was to evaluate the potential of seven isolates of ECMf to solubilize two rocks, alkaline breccia and granite, and to liberate potassium and phosphorus for Eucalyptus dunnii seedlings under greenhouse conditions. Fungal inoculants were produced in a peat-vermiculite-liquid medium mixture and added to the planting substrate at 10 %. Rocks were ground up and added at 0.500 mg and 16.0 mg per plant, as a source of phosphorus and potassium, respectively. Other nutrients were added and E. dunnii seeds were sown. Control plants, non-inoculated, were fertilized with... |

The efficiency of composting processes with and without the addition of Californian red worms (Eisenia foetida) was evaluated, using manure of dairy cows to generate organic fertilizer. Several parameters were assessed as physio-chemical indicators of maturity, such as temperature, pH, C/N ratio, phytotoxicity and macro and micronutrients at 25 and 54 ws (mature and stored products, respectively). A linear model was used in the statistical analysis, with four replicates that included as fixed effects, the composting systems and time. At 25 wk, both systems reduced the C/N ratio to values of 15.5 in vermicompost and 17.1 in semi-compost. The content of total N, N-NO3, Ca and some micronutrients also increased. K and Na concentrations were higher in the... |

ABSTRACT: This study aimed to evaluate aspects of reproductive phenology, yield components and seed quality of the B4 genotype of Brachiaria brizantha in function of nitrogen doses applied at pre-flowering. The experiment was carried out at Embrapa Beef Cattle, in a randomized block design, with seeding density of 2.59kg SPV ha-1 in the first year, in free growth plants. Urea was applied at pre-flowering at doses of 0, 25, 50, 75, 100, 125 and 150kg ha-1. The reproductive cycle of the plant lasts 225 days, with late flowering. N doses influenced the following characteristics: number of fully expanded inflorescences, percentage of dry matter, dry biomass, number of spikelets per raceme, seed yield, weight of a thousand seeds, germination, germination speed... |

ABSTRACT: The objective of this study was to evaluate the productive potential and mineral composition of the forage cactus IPA-Sertânia (Nopalea cochenillifera Salm Dyck). This species was analyzed both in monoculture and intercropped with leucaena [Leucaena leucocephala (Lam.) De Wit.] and gliricidia [Gliricidia sepium (Jacq. Steud.], and was assessed with different sources of manure (cattle, sheep, goat, and broiler litter) serving as fertilizer. The experiment was conducted at the Experimental Station of the Instituto Agronômico de Pernambuco in Caruaru, PE, Brazil. Treatments were allocated in a split-plot arrangement in a randomized complete block design, with four replications. Main plots consisted of cropping systems, while the split-plots were... |
