A imbuia (Ocotea porosa Nees et Martius ex. Nees, Lauraceae) é uma espécie da Floresta Ombrófila Mista de valor econômico por possuir madeira de alta qualidade para mobiliário de luxo. Acha-se ameaçada de extinção e, por isto, a Embrapa Florestas vem desenvolvendo coletas para a instalação de um banco de conservação de germoplasma em outubro de 2004 em Santa Catarina. Sensitivity of brazilian-pine (Araucária angustifolia) embryos to desiccation and temperature PFB - Pesquisa Florestal Brasileira

The “recalcitrant” behavior of Araucaria angustifolia (Bert.) O. Kuntze seeds (Brazilian pine) limits the conservation of genetic resources of this important species in ex situ genebanks. As initial steps in developing storage protocols, we studied the interaction of water content and temperature on embryo survival. Embryos were excised from seeds and “flash-dried” to water contents as low as 0.29 g water/g dry mass and then exposed to 0°C, -5°C and -18°C for 4 h. Drying rate was calculated from drying time courses and expressed as (g water / g dry weight) / hour. Exploitation of imbuya (Ocotea porosa) occurred at the same time of Araucaria angustifolia. Imbuya is threatned of extinction, owns a valuable wood and for these characteristics, Embrapa Florestas, located at Colombo, State of Paraná, Brazil, decided to make efforts for its conservation ex-situ. Collects in Southern Brazil at the localities of Caçador, Canoinhas (State of Santa Catarina), Colombo and Bocaiúva do Sul (State of Paraná) were realized. In situ and genetic characterization of Gossypium barbadense populations from the states of Pará and Amapá, Brazil PAB

The objective of this work was to characterize the populations of Gossypium barbadense in the states of Amapá and Pará, Brazil. In situ characterization was conducted through interviews with the owners of the plants and environmental observations. Leaf or petal tissue as well as seed samples were collected for genetic characterization by single sequence repeats markers and for storage in germplasm banks, respectively. The plants were maintained in dooryards and used mainly for medical purposes. The genetic analysis showed no heterozygous plants at the loci tested (f = 1), indicating that reproduction occurs mainly through selfing. Genetic diversity for gliadin patterns of durum wheat landraces in the Northwest of Iran and Azerbaijan PAB

The objective of this study was to identify gliadin band patterns and the extent of genetic diversity in durum wheat genotypes from Northwestern Iran and the Republic of Azerbaijan. Gliadins from 46 landraces and four cultivars were evaluated through acid PAGE analyses. Sixty-six polymorphic bands and 81 patterns were identified. Twenty-four different motility bands and 22 patterns were found in the ω gliadin region with 14 polymorph bands and 20 patterns for α and γ gliadins, and 14 bands and 19 different patterns for β gliadins. The combination of these patterns generated 38 and 39 combinations for Gli-1 and Gli-2 loci, respectively.
