Although local, short supply chains are regarded as most suitable for organic products, most organic food is sold through general retailers. The extended supply chains create challenges: (1) how to sustain the connection between farmers and consumers and deliver the multifaceted value of organic food and (2) how to cooperate to meet both the needs of consumers and of each independent company involved in the supply chain. This publication gives among other things practical implications concerning organic food supply chains and marketing of organic products. |

The purpose of this article is to critically explore the widely shared assumption that trust is vital for supporting future growth of organic farming. Based on selected results of three recent research projects, the contribution investigates the concept of trust, and the relation between trust and organics in a management and in a media research perspective. Our conclusion is that neither management nor media research support the assumed direct importance of trust in organic certification logos for organic growth. The article proposes the development of interdisciplinary and contextualized understandings of trust as avenue for further research. |

The aim of the study is to improve the functionality of the organic demand-supply chain and relationships between the actors participating in the chain. The study analyzes how the organic food demand-supply chain functions and, more specifically, how different actors in the organic demand-supply chain cooperate and relate to each other. The focus of the study is, on the one hand, on the actors' attitudes towards organic food and, on the other hand, on information flows in organic supply-demand chains. Quantitative analyzes of the study are based on the Finfood panel data (1998-2004) gathered on producers', food manufacturers', retailers', catering units', and consumers' attitudes towards organic production and products. In addition, two organic... |

The combination of organic and regional marketing might provide an opportunity to render small organic shops more successful again. The term regional has no legal regulation and consumers as well as scientists have many different understandings which aspects are involved with it and how to define it. The objective of this study is to develop sophisticated criteria for the analysis of the different conceptions consumers have in mind when it comes to local food. For this purpose 261 consumers in five organic shops located in different German areas where asked in open interviews. The results show that the distance between the place of production/cultivation and the consumers´ home is an important aspect for local organic food. But the definition of... |

There is a supply surplus of Swiss organic dairy products (10 - 20 % of of the organic milk produced). The project aimed to identify reasons which hamper a better market penetration of products like organic yoghurt, cheese, butter or curd. These product groups achieve smaller market shares under 5%, compared with product groups with higher organic market shares such as milk, vegetables, fruits or eggs. Farmers in Switzerland have serious problems in marketing bigger parts of their organic dairy production. This has led to pressure on producer prices. Project aims including target group: The market research project therefore aimed in a first stage to identify main market barriers for a better penetration of organic dairy products. Based on the... |
