Ideal culture conditions for Dicyma pulvinata conidia mass production PAB
Melo,Débora Ferreira; Mello,Sueli Corrêa Marques de.
The objective of this work was to set up ideal conditions for conidia mass production of Dicyma pulvinata. Four isolates were compared in terms of their growth and conidia production on various substrates (grains of parboiled rice, common rice, maize and wheat, besides chipped maize and rice husk), temperatures (19, 22, 25, 28 and 31ºC), growth containers (aluminum trays, polypropylene bags and Erlenmeyers) and light regimes (continuous darkness, 6 and 12 hours of light/darkness, and continuous light). Temperature effects on conidia germination capacity were also evaluated. The experiments were done in randomized complete block designs, in factorial arrangements (isolates x treatments - substrates, containers, temperatures and light regimes), with four...

Andrade, Francisco Gomes; Mattos, Adriano Lincoln Albuquerque; Araujo, Joao Cavalcante.
The objective of this paper is to discuss the setting and construction process of cognitive stigma that has...

Ciclo biológico de Calacarus heveae Feres, 1992 (Acari, Eriophyidae) Rev. Bras. entomol.
Ferla,Noeli Juarez; Moraes,Gilberto José de.
Calacarus heveae Feres, 1992 is an Eriophyidae mite described from rubber tree (Hevea brasiliensis Muell. Arg.) in the northwest region of the State of São Paulo. This mite prefers the adaxial face of the folioles and it can reduce the brightness of the leaves, turning them progressively yellow and brownish, and consequently premature fall. The aim of this work was to study the biology of C. heveae in laboratory, on detached rubber tree folioles. The study was conducted at 28±1 ºC in the photophase (12h), 25±1 ºC in the dark phase (12h), and 90±5% relative humidity. The study was initiated with a total of 59 eggs. The average duration of egg, larva and nymph stages was 5.8, 2.0 and 1.4 days, respectively. The period from egg to adult lasted 9.3 days, and...

Stock-scion interactions on growth and rubber yield of Hevea brasiliensis Scientia Agricola
Muell.-Arg.] uses mostly the budding propagation method, however the expected stand uniformity due to the use of vegetative propagation is theoretical, since high variation for yield and vigor is caused by rootstock influence. The objective of this study was to assess several combinations between clonal rootstocks and clone scions through diallel analysis, aiming at high productivity and vigor. Data consisted of five years of dry rubber yield and girth at panel opening from an experiment using a split-plot design with four replications, conducted at Pindorama, SP, Brazil, considering six rootstocks (GT 1, IAN 873, PB 235, RRIM 600, RRIM 701 and unselected seedlings) and six scions (GT 1,...

Genetic variability for girth growth and rubber yield in Hevea brasiliensis Scientia Agricola
Gonçalves,Paulo de Souza; Silva,Marcelo de Almeida; Gouvêa,Ligia Regina Lima; Scaloppi Junior,Erivaldo José.
Basic knowledge of genetic characteristics of populations is necessary to conduct effective breeding and selection. The objective of this paper is describing the genetic variation of rubber yield and the correlation with other traits, and estimating the genetic parameters for girth growth and total number of latex vessels. Sixty seven clones of Hevea brasiliensis (Willd. ex Adr. de Juss.) Muell.-Arg. were tested at five sites during 10 years. Characters girth growth at panel opening and rubber yield, showed broad sense heritability on plot mean level, from 0.32 to 0.66 and 0.59 to 0.92, respectively. Predicted genetic gains equal to 0.73 cm and 0.79 g increase respectively on girth and yield in the opening panel and mature phases seems realistic, even with...

Moreno,Rogério Manoel Biagi; Ferreira,Mariselma; Gonçalves,Paulo de Souza; Mattoso,Luiz Henrique Capparelli.
Rubber industry has increased the requirements for quality and uniformity of natural rubber produced in Brazil. Technological properties of latex and natural rubber of clones GT 1, PB 235, IAN 873 and RRIM 600 [Hevea brasiliensis (Willd. Former Adr. de Juss.) Muell.- Arg] were evaluated by standard methods of the dry rubber content (DRC%), percentage of nitrogen (N%) and percentage of ashes (ASH%) in two consecutive years; data were correlated with temperature and precipitation. Properties of latex and natural rubber varied (P < 0.01) as a function of clone type and among tappings. DRC decreased in the beginning of the dry season (May to June) and N% and ASH% increased in the same period. April to June was a critical period, when N% was above 0.60%, out...

Biologia de Agistemus floridanus Gonzalez (Acari, Stigmaeidae) Zoologia
Ferla,Noeli Juarez; Moraes,Gilberto José de.
The rubber tree (Hevea brasiliensis Muell. Arg.) (Euphorbiaceae) is attacked by various species of phytophagous mites in Brazil. Studies conducted in the State of Mato Grosso showed the presence of Agistemus floridanus Gonzalez, 1965 (Stigmaeidae) on rubber trees, associated with the mite Tenuipalpus heveae Baker, 1945. The aim of this work was to study the biology of that predator in the laboratory, when fed with T. heveae as prey. The study was started with 22 eggs, which resulted in 15 females reaching adult hood. To determine the effect of mating on oviposition, 30 females were used; half of those were maintained isolated and the remaining were maintained then with males during the whole adult stage. The stage of egg was the longest, with a duration of...

Feres,Reinaldo J. F..
Calacarus heveae Feres, 1992 was the first eriophyid mite reported from Hevea brasiliensis Muell. Arg. This mite was first found in northwestern São Paulo State, Brazil. Feres (1998) described two additional species, Shevtchenkella petiolula and Phyllocoptruta seringueirae, from the same host and from same region. The commercial monocultural planting of the Amazonian rubber tree in the northwestern region of São Paulo State started about 18 years ago. In the Amazonian region, the native rubber tree grows dispersed between other plant species. Until now these eriophyids have been collected only on monocultural plantings. This paper reports the occurrence of C. heveae, S. petiolula and P. seringueirae on H. brasiliensis in the Amazonian Forest for the first...

Mite diversity (Arthropoda: Acari) on Euphorbiaceous plants in three localities in the state of São Paulo Biota Neotropica
Zacarias,Mauricio Sergio; Moraes,Gilberto José de.
Patches of natural vegetation have been reported to play an important role in the preservation of diversity of natural enemies of pest arthropods. Euphorbiaceous plants are common in natural and regenerated ecosystems in the State of São Paulo. Those plants may act as reservoirs of phytophagous mites and their respective natural enemies, both of which are also found on cultivated plants of the same family. The objective of the work reported in this paper was to study the diversity of mite species on euphorbiaceous plants in three regions of the State of São Paulo, and to compare the similarities between those regions in relation to the composition of the mite fauna they harbor. A total of 31,603 mites belonging to 105 species in 74 genera and 16 families...

Review about mites (Acari) of rubber trees (Hevea spp., Euphorbiaceae) in Brazil Biota Neotropica
Hernandes,Fábio Akashi; Feres,Reinaldo José Fazzio.
Two of the most economically important superfamilies of phytophagous mites are Tetranychoidea and Eriophyoidea, which have species represented in rubber trees in Brazil. In this paper we review the literature concerning the mite fauna registered on rubber trees in that country. The source was the information available on literature, but also data from exploratory samplings in Goianésia, State of Goiás, and from a triennial survey with monthly samplings in Cedral, State of São Paulo. Among the phytophagous mites the most important and abundant species were Calacarus heveae and Tenuipalpus heveae. Seven of the nominal species reported belong to the family Tetranychidae. Eutetranychus banksi and Oligonychus gossypii were very numerous in several crops...

Temporal stability for unpredictable annual climatic variability for Hevea genotype selection BABT
Gonçalves,Paulo de Souza; Moraes,Mário Luiz Teixeira de; Gouvêa,Lígia Regina Lima; Aguiar,Adriano Tosoni da Eira; Scallopi Júnior,Erivaldo José.
The objective of this study was to assess genotype-year interaction and determine temporal stable genotypes across six years of rubber yield evaluation. Stability analyses were performed by Eberhart and Russell method for rubber yield. Twenty-five genotypes were analyzed in a randomized complete block design with three replications. The best genotype in one year was not same always in the other year. The genotype components were partitioned into linear (genotypes within year) and nonlinear (pooled deviations) components. Significant mean square for linear components was predictable. This indicated that the performance of genotypes across the years for rubber yield could be predicted. Among the analyzed genotypes the IAC 40 also was considered highly...

Particleboards produced with different proportions of Hevea brasiliensis: Residual wood valorization in higher value added products Ciência e Agrotecnologia
Faria,Douglas Lamounier; Eugênio,Tony Matheus Carvalho; Lopes,Daiane Erika; Protásio,Thiago de Paula; Mendes,Lourival Marin; Guimarães Junior,José Benedito.
ABSTRACT The use of the Hevea brasiliensis tree in latex rubber production has resulted in a consolidated role of this tree in the Brazilian economy. However, at the end of the productive cycle of the tree that lasts for approximately 25 years, the timber resulting from this venture has no added value and is usually used for the production of firewood. In order to introduce this species into the furniture and civil construction industry, the current study aimed to evaluate the quality of particleboard produced by adding Pinus oocarpa wood with Hevea brasiliensis wood in different ratios. The particleboards were produced with a nominal density of 0.60 g/cm³ and 8% (wt%) urea-formaldehyde resin and pressed at 160 °C for 8 min at a pressure of 4.0 MPa. The...

Photosynthetic behaviour during the leaf ontogeny of rubber tree clones[Hevea brasiliensis (Wild. ex. Adr. de Juss.) Muell. Arg.], in Lavras, MG Ciência e Agrotecnologia
Miguel,Aurélio Antas; Oliveira,Luiz Edson Mota de; Cairo,Paulo Araquém Ramos; Oliveira,Davi Melo de.
This work proposed to investigate changes in the photosynthetic behavior during the leaf ontogeny of the during the leaf development. Up to the 32nd day of leaf age (stage B2), the net photosynthesis was negative due to the inefficiency of the photosynthetic system, and this fact was justified by the following factors: low chlorophyll content, less stomatal conductance, high rubber tree clones PB 235, RRIM 600 and GT 1, in Lavras, MG. The experiment was performed in 2004, between May and July, under field conditions, at the Universidade Federal de Lavras. During the leaf ontogeny, the following characteristics were evaluated: chlorophyll content, gaseous exchanges and chlorophyll fluorescence. The clones presented similar profiles of alterations in the...
