Leick,Sheilla A.; Oliveira,João G B. De; Tavares,Karoline A.; Lopes,Deize D.; Barana,Ana C..
ABSTRACT This study aimed to evaluate a structured bed reactor with intermittent aeration in the simultaneous removal of Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) and Total Nitrogen (TN) from sanitary sewage. The reactor was operated for 339 days with a Hydraulic Retention Time (HRT) of 12 hours, temperature of 30 ± 1°C and continuous feeding. Nine trials were carried out in which three different effluent recirculation flow (Qr), 3, 2 and 1 time the incoming flow, were evaluated in three different aeration times, of 1h, 2h, and 3h, in 3 hour cycles. The results showed that different recirculation flows and aeration times did not influence the removal of COD, which reached 89%±12. It was observed that the efficiency of TN removal was higher in the tests with higher...

PHYSICO-MECHANICAL CHARACTERIZATION OF THE Anadenanthera colubrine WOOD SPECIE REA
Christoforo,André L.; Aftimus,Bruno H. C.; Panzera,Tulio H.; Machado,Gilmara de O.; Lahr,Francisco A. R..
ABSTRACT In Brazil, the characterization of wood is carried out in accordance with the premises established by ABNT NBR 7190standard; however, the determination of wood properties requires the use of equipment, which hinders the wood characterization for the construction professional. To circumvent this problem, the properties of wood strength and stiffness can be estimated through regression models using the apparent density as estimator, being the density a physical property of easy determination. This study aimed to determine 4 physical and 13 mechanical properties of “Angico Branco” wood (Anadenanthera colubrina), and with the aid of regression models based on analysis of variance, estimate the strength and stiffness properties as a function of...

PERFORMANCE AND EMISSION OF POLLUTANTS OF AN AGRICULTURAL ENGINE WITH TWO POWER TAKE-OFF SETTINGS REA
Schlosser,José F.; Farias,Marcelo S. de; Estrada,Javier S.; Santos,Gustavo O. dos; Gil,Emilio.
ABSTRACT Farming operations are usually performed implements driven by a power take-off (PTO) from tractors. Some manufacturers offer PTO settings named as economic (540E). Such configuration drives implements at lower tractor’s engine rotation, thus providing lower fuel consumption. An engine performance using standard (540) or 540E settings are different and poorly studied. The amounts of pollutants emitted by engines vary mainly with the applied load and rotation. The aim of this study was to compare the performance and exhaust emissions of a farming tractor engine under different PTO loads, using both standard (540) and 540E settings. Specific fuel consumption using 540E was an average 14.7% less than the standard setting. However, 540E promoted...

IN SITU MONITORING OF A CONTROLLED RELEASE OF FERTILIZERS IN LETTUCE CROP REA
Souza,Claudinei F.; Faez,Roselena; Bacalhau,Fabiana B.; Bacarin,Murilo F.; Pereira,Tamires S..
ABSTRACT: Agriculture has sought ways to increase food production to meet global demands, intensifying dependence on natural resources. An alternative for intensive production has relied on the use of “smart” fertilizers that release nutrients in a controlled manner. Biodegradable polymers containing fertilizers has presented economic and environmental advantages when applied to the soil, as they release water and nutrients gradually to the environment without leaving residues. The objective of this study was to monitor the behavior of chitosan-clay hybrid microspheres, used as potassium nitrate soil ferti-releaser in lettuce cultivation. The experiment consisted of two treatments: (i) application of ferti-releasing chitosan-clay microspheres and (ii) use...

SPATIAL VARIABILITY OF SOYBEAN YIELD THROUGH A REPARAMETERIZED T-STUDENT MODEL REA
Schemmer,Rosangela C.; Uribe-Opazo,Miguel A.; Galea,Manuel; Assumpção,Rosangela A. B..
ABSTRACT: The t-Student distribution has been used to the spatial dependence modelling of soybean yield as an alternative to the normal distribution, being used for data with heavier tails or discrepant values. However, a usual Student t-distribution does not allow direct comparisons of geostatistical methods with a normal distribution. The aim of this study was to assess the soybean yield spatial variability through a reparameterized t-Student linear model, comparing the results with those of a Gaussian linear model. For parameter estimation, a complete maximum likelihood (CML) method was used through an expectation-maximization (EM) algorithm. The maps constructed with both reparameterized t-Student and normal distributions are dissimilar and present a...
