| The objective of this work was to monitor the consolidation of the femur after osteosynthesis with a bridge plate associated with the intramedullary pin using scintigraphy. We used seven New Zealand breed male rabbits, at 4 months of age, with a mean weight of 3.5 kg. We performed a three-phase bone scintigraphy with technetium-labeled methylene diphosphonate (99mTc-MDP) before and after surgery, and 20, 50 and 90 days postoperatively. The activity index (AI) was calculated by dividing the average number of uptake counts in the region of the osteotomy by the average number of counts in the corresponding region in the contralateral limb. | The changes of red and white blood cells counts in intact and castrated rats with hyperthyroidism were analysed. A total of 108 five-month-old female Wistar rats, divided into four groups, were used as following: euthyroid castrated, euthyroid intact, hyperthyroid castrated and hyperthyroid intact. Nine animals of each group were killed at 30, 60 and 90 days to evaluate the red and white blood cells counts. The conclusion was that castration or hyperthyroidism did not affect both the red and white blood cells. |

| It has been described the anatomopathological and immunohistochemical characteristics of a multinodular neoplasm distributed in the parietal and visceral pleurae, pericardium, thoracic portion of the diaphragm and renal cortex of an eight year-old, female, mixed breed, cat. Based on the anatomopathological and immunohistochemical findings it was firmed the diagnosis of biphasic pleural mesotelioma with renal metastasis. |

| A case of urethral carcinoma in 15-year-old mongrel male dog is described. Signs of dysuria, urethral obstruction, tenesmus, pain and cough were mentioned. Clinically, the animal was undernourished and showed signs of pain and bladder repletion during the palpation of the abdominal region. Other complementary exams were made such as routine urinalyses, X-ray, ultrassonography and measurement of blood urea and creatinine. Macroscopically, the mucous membrane of pelvic urethra was somewhat irregular, due to the presence of several small white irregular and ulcerated nodules of imprecise boundaries. Similar nodules were found in the lungs and heart. Histologically, transitional cell carcinoma of urethra with metastasis to lung and heart was detected. |

| The present report describes the clinical and pathological findings related to diffuse heterotopic hairs associated with pseudo-placentational endometrial hyperplasia in a canine uterus. Macroscopically, the uterus was intensely enlarged and thicker, and the endometrial surface was irregular and covered with black hairs similar to the hairs of the bitch. Histologically, heterotopic hairs associated with pseudo-placentational endometrial hyperplasia were observed. |

| Nine cases of familial osteopetrosis were studied in Agouti paca rodents maintained in captivity. Animals were distributed in three groups depending on the severity of their skeletal lesions. Based upon clinical, radiological, and microscopic findings, it was concluded that one animal had level I lesions, three animals had level II lesions, and five animals had level III osteopetrosis and osteonecrosis. Throughout the entire axial and appendicular skeleton, there was an increased amount of both trabecular and cortical bone tissue. All analyzed bones showed thickened cortex and reduced medullary canals. Bone trabeculae were thick and confluent. Cortex showed a narrowing of Haversian canals. | RESUMO A osteocondromatose é caracterizada por nódulos únicos ou múltiplos decorrentes de um crescimento ósseo excessivo benigno. É encontrada em cães, gatos, equinos e humanos. Em felinos, tem maior incidência dos dois aos quatro anos de idade. A etiologia em gatos está relacionada ao vírus da leucemia felina, e também já foi encontrada relação com o fibrossarcoma. A manifestação clínica depende do local acometido e do tamanho da lesão. O diagnóstico definitivo é por meio de histopatologia e o prognóstico é desfavorável, pois ocorrem muitas recidivas. Este relato de caso objetiva descrever a apresentação dessa enfermidade em um felino jovem. |

| Foram estudadas as alterações cutâneas de ratas Wistar adultas castradas e não castradas, mantidas em estado hipotireóideo por 120 dias. Dois grupos eutireóideos, um castrado e outro não castrado, serviram de controle. Secções da pele abdominal ventral e torácica dorsal foram coradas pelas técnicas de HE, PAS, azul de alcian (alcian blue), picro-sirius red-luz polarizada e Verhoeff. Adelgaçamento da epiderme, atrofia de glândulas sebáceas, redução parcial ou total de fibras elásticas e do colágeno do tipo III da derme caracterizaram tanto o hipotireoidismo quanto a castração. | ABSTRACT The objective was to evaluate the in vitro effect of prolactin in osteogenic potential of adipose tissue-derived mesenchymal stem cells (ADSCs) in female rats. | ABSTRACT A 16-year-old female Poodle entered UFMG’s Veterinary Hospital with severe prostration, lack of appetite, and vomit. During physical examination, abdominal pain, dehydration, and hyperglycemia (448mg/dl) were found, therefore the animal was admitted under the suspicion of diabetic ketoacidosis. Screening revealed metabolic acidosis, hyperkalemia, glycosuria, ketonuria, and proteinuria. Leukocytosis, thrombocytosis, increase in the number of hepatic enzymes and hyperglycemia were also present in these tests. | The influence of the estrous cycle on the thyroid gland was studied. Twenty one five-to-seven-month-old Wistar female rats were divided according to the stage of the estrous cycle in two groups: metaestrus-diestrus and proestrus-estrus. After gross inspection, the thyroids were weighed, sampled, and processed for staining with hematoxilyn-eosin. Seric concentrations of total T4, free T4, total T3, TSH, progesterone, and estradiol were measured. The values of estradiol were significantly higher in the proestrus-estrus stage. | O objetivo deste trabalho foi verificar os efeitos da ingestão materna de diferentes doses de cafeína durante a gestação e a lactação, na pele de ratas-mães e filhotes, bem como sua relação com as concentrações séricas do cortisol materno. Vinte e quatro ratas Wistar adultas foram distribuídas em quatro grupos, representados pelo controle e tratados, com cafeína nas doses de 25, 50 e 100mg/kg. | Mitotic index, nuclear diameter, number of nucleolar organizing regions, and Ki-67 expression, in hair follicle tumors of 82 dogs were evaluated. Tissue specimens were used to prepare sections for histological staining for number of nucleolar organizing region and immunohistochemical staining for Ki-67.
