Caracterización morfológica y agronómica de once híbridos de Brachiaria ssp Colegio de Postgraduados
Peralta Nava, Jorge Armando.

PHYSICAL ANALYSIS OF REGIONALIZED FLOW AS AN AID IN THE IDENTIFICATION OF HYDROLOGICALLY HOMOGENEOUS REGIONS REA
Calegario,Arthur T.; Pruski,Fernando F.; Ribeiro,Rayssa B.; Ramos,Maria C. A.; Rego,Fernando S..
ABSTRACT Regionalization is an important technique for estimating the flow of hydrographic sections with a lack of data. First, it is necessary to identify hydrologically homogeneous regions (HHRs), which are commonly validated via statistical analyses. Because this step is understood to be subjective, studies that contribute to a greater reliability in identifying regions are needed. In this context, the objective was to evaluate the inclusion of a physical analysis of the average regionalized flow rates as an aid to identify HHRs. The groupings were defined on the basis of geographical convenience methods and cluster analysis. For the assessment of regionalized flows, six statistical indices were used with a physical analysis that was performed via a...

Soil penetration resistance analysis by multivariate and geostatistical methods REA
Medina,Cecilia; Camacho-Tamayo,Jesús H.; Cortés,César A..
The penetration resistance (PR) is a soil attribute that allows identifies areas with restrictions due to compaction, which results in mechanical impedance for root growth and reduced crop yield. The aim of this study was to characterize the PR of an agricultural soil by geostatistical and multivariate analysis. Sampling was done randomly in 90 points up to 0.60 m depth. It was determined spatial distribution models of PR, and defined areas with mechanical impedance for roots growth. The PR showed a random distribution to 0.55 and 0.60 m depth. PR in other depths analyzed showed spatial dependence, with adjustments to exponential and spherical models. The cluster analysis that considered sampling points allowed establishing areas with compaction problem...

Wavelet-domain elastic net for clustering on genomes strains Genet. Mol. Biol.
Ferreira,Leila Maria; Sáfadi,Thelma; Ferreira,Juliano Lino.
Abstract We propose to evaluate genome similarity by combining discrete non-decimated wavelet transform (NDWT) and elastic net. The wavelets represent a signal with levels of detail, that is, hidden components are detected by means of the decomposition of this signal, where each level provides a different characteristic. The main feature of the elastic net is the grouping of correlated variables where the number of predictors is greater than the number of observations. The combination of these two methodologies applied in the clustering analysis of the Mycobacterium tuberculosis genome strains proved very effective, being able to identify clusters at each level of decomposition.

Genetic variability in Brazilian wheat cultivars assessed by microsatellite markers Genet. Mol. Biol.
Schuster,Ivan; Vieira,Elisa Serra Negra; Silva,Glacy Jaqueline da; Franco,Francisco de Assis; Marchioro,Volmir Sérgio.
Wheat (Triticum aestivum) is one of the most important food staples in the south of Brazil. Understanding genetic variability among the assortment of Brazilian wheat is important for breeding. The aim of this work was to molecularly characterize the thirty-six wheat cultivars recommended for various regions of Brazil, and to assess mutual genetic distances, through the use of microsatellite markers. Twenty three polymorphic microsatellite markers (PMM) delineated all 36 of the samples, revealing a total of 74 simple sequence repeat (SSR) alleles, i.e. an average of 3.2 alleles per locus. Polymorphic information content (PIC value) calculated to assess the informativeness of each marker ranged from 0.20 to 0.79, with a mean of 0.49. Genetic distances among...

Cytogenetic study of the genus Cousinia (Asteraceae, section Serratuloideae) in Iran Genet. Mol. Biol.
Sheidai,Masoud; Mehdigholi,Kazem; Ghahreman,Ahmad; Attar,Farideh.
Meiotic studies of ploidy level, chromosome paring and chiasma frequency were performed on 11 Cousinia (Asteraceae) species of the section Serratuloideae. The diploid number of the species studied was 2n = 2x = 24 and 26 so these species possess two different basic numbers (x = 12 or 13), a phenomenon common to other sections of the genus. The chromosome numbers of 9 species are reported here for the first time. When the 2n = 24 and 2n = 26 species were subjected to cluster analysis based on relative meiotic characters two different clusters were formed indicating their distinctness. Our data support the results obtained from morphometry, anatomy, pollen morphology and molecular studies of the genus Cousinia.

Molecular characterization and genetic structure of the Nero Siciliano pig breed Genet. Mol. Biol.
Guastella,Anna Maria; Criscione,Andrea; Marletta,Donata; Zuccaro,Antonio; Chies,Luigi; Bordonaro,Salvatore.
Nero Siciliano is an autochthonous pig breed that is reared mainly in semi-extensive systems in northeastern Sicily. Despite its economic importance and well-appreciated meat products, this breed is currently endangered. Consequently, an analysis of intra-breed variability is a fundamental step in preserving this genetic resource and its breeding system. In this work, we used 25 microsatellite markers to examine the genetic composition of 147 unrelated Nero Siciliano pigs. The total number of alleles detected (249, 9.96 per locus) and the expected heterozygosity (0.708) indicated that this breed had a high level of genetic variability. Bayesian cluster analysis showed that the most likely number of groups into which the sample could be partitioned was...
