Blank,Arie F; Costa,Andréa S da; Arrigoni-Blank,Maria de Fátima; Mendonça,Aline B de; Ledo,Ana da S.
Pepper-rosmarin (Lippia sidoides Cham.) is a native medicinal plant from the Brazilian biome Caatinga. Its high economical importance comes from the antimicrobial properties of thymol and carvacrol, both present in the pepper-rosmarin essential oil. Nodal segments of pepper-rosmarin were established in vitro to evaluate different growth regulators. We tested four concentrations of IBA (0.0; 0.01; 0.05; and 0.1 mg L-1) combined with six concentrations of BAP (0.0; 0.1; 0.5; 1.0; 2.0; and 4.0 mg L-1) in assay 1; five concentrations of NAA (0.0; 0.1; 0.25; 0.5; and 1.0 mg L-1) in assay 2; two concentrations of NAA (0.0 and 0.01 mg L-1) combined with five concentrations of kinetin (0.0; 0.25; 0.5; 1.0; and 2.0 mg L-1) in assay 3; five concentrations of IAA...

Matriconditioning integrated with gibberellic acid to hasten seed germination and improve stand establishment of pepper and tomato PAB
Andreoli,Claudinei; Khan,Anwar A.
Emergence and stand establishment of tomato (Lycopersicon lycopersicum (L.) (Karsten ex Farw) and pepper (Capsicum annus L.) seeds are often slow and erratic, particularly under stress conditions. Field emergence trials sometimes have not responded to priming in pepper. This study examined the combined effects of matriconditioning and gibberellin application on the germination and stand establishment of pepper and tomato seeds. Pepper and tomato seeds were conditioned with a solid carrier, Micro Cel E, in the presence of gibberellic acid (GA) for 1, 2 , 3 and 4 days at 15 and 25ºC. The results showed that, in all cases, even under stress conditions, the combination of matriconditioning with GA was effective in improving germination and emergence of pepper...

VITAL,R.G.; JAKELAITIS,A.; COSTA,A.C.; SILVA,F.B.; BATISTA,P.F..
ABSTRACT Chemical ripeners are frequently used on sugarcane crops in order to increase profitability. However, the drift of these products to neighbouring fields can expose susceptible non-target plants, such as sunflower, to these agents causing indirect impacts on growth and development. Therefore, this study aimed to assess the toxicity characterize possible changes in the growth of sunflower plants exposed to simulated drift of the ripeners glyphosate and trinexapac-ethyl. For each ripener, the following doses were used: glyphosate (0 (control), 3.6, 7.2, 14.4, 28.8 and 86.4 g a.e ha-1) and trinexapac-ethyl (0, 3.12, 6.25, 12.50, 25 and 75 g a.i ha-1). The effects of these products on plant height, number of leaves, leaf area, stem diameter and dry...

Growth inhibitors in turfgrass Planta Daninha
March,S.R.; Martins,D.; McElroy,J.S..
Well-maintained lawns are comfortable and safe places for leisure activities and sports practice, and they also bring environmental benefits; for example, they reduce soil exposure to erosion and releases atmospheric CO2, thus reducing the greenhouse effect. However, regardless of the purpose of use or the choice of the plant species to form the lawn, the highest costs involve cutting that is needed to keep the turfgrass at its appropriate height. Successive lawn cutting operations are necessary basically because of the vegetative and reproductive growth of turfgrass which, in Brazil, occurs mainly from October to March. Expenditures with successive mechanical cuttings have fostered the search of alternative procedures to keep lawn plants at appropriate...

Initialism as a mechanism of weed interference: can a crop plant be blinded? Planta Daninha
Vidal,R.A.; Trezzi,M.M.; Kozlowski,L.A.; Prates,M.V.B.; Cieslik,L.F.; Merotto Jr.,A..
Initialism is a new word proposed to indicate the "shade-avoidance syndrome". Plants detect the presence of neighbor plants very early in the growing season through changes in light quality. They modify the allocation of photosynthesis products privileging shoot growth over the roots. One of the hypotheses of the authors is that, when weed management is timely scheduled, a "blind" crop could be more productive because it would avoid an imbalance on the shoot:root ratio (S:R). Two strategies were developed to test this hypothesis: a) to use the classical Yoda's Law to screen several crops for insensitivity to S:R imbalance; b) to evaluate several growth regulators to control the plant responses to crowding. Experimental results confirm that both strategies...

FARIA,A. T.; FERREIRA,E. A.; ROCHA,P. R. R.; SILVA,D. V.; SILVA,A. A.; FIALHO,C. M. T.; SILVA,A. F..
ABSTRACT Growth regulators can be used to further retard or inhibit vegetative growth. In this sense, the objective of this study was to determine the effects of age and number of trinexapac-ethyl applications on the growth and yield of sugarcane. The experiment was in a randomized complete block design with four replications. The treatments were in a 3 x 2 + 2 factorial arrangement, where factor A corresponded to the application times of the plant growth regulator (120, 200 and 240 days after bud burst (DAB) of sugarcane) and factor B to the number of applications (one or two applications). In addition, two controls (one with three applications and another application without the regulator) were added. The application of trinexapac-ethyl decreased the...
