UNCERTAINTY ANALYSIS OF A WEB-BASED DATA ACQUISITION SYSTEM FOR POULTRY MANAGEMENT WITH SENSOR NETWORKS REA
Yu,Ligen; Teng,Guanghui; Riskowski,Gerald L.; Xu,Xuzhang; Guo,Wenzhong.
ABSTRACT This paper presents a web-based data acquisition system developed by the LabVIEW software program for environment monitoring for poultry management. The measurement error and uncertainty analysis should be conducted accurately to maximize the reliability of this system. An algorithm was proposed for the uncertainty analysis to estimate the sensor networks, with the calibration and validation processes fulfilling the standards of the Guide to the Expression of Uncertainty in Measurement. For the different environmental sensors, the values of the uncertainties were calculated by the methods of type A and B evaluation through a case study. Environmental parameters including air temperature, relative humidity, and CO2 concentration of a compartment...

Baley, C; Cailler, M.
The experimental sailing boat "Mesure Z," has been designed and built on behalf of F.I.N., (the French marine industry association). This research project has been managed in close collaboration with Bureau Veritas, Ifremer and the CEA. The GRP hull is similar to that of a production sailing boat, but it has been designed as a transducer-hull, i.e. a hull sufficiently sensitive to allow measurements (hull strains, acceleration, spar loads, etc), due to its structure and mechanical characteristics. This paper presents different aspects of the experimental boat, the materials and structure of the transducer-hull, and the behaviour of the central and bow regions of the hull during sailing.

An automated photo-oxidation method for the determination of dissolved organic phosphorus in marine and fresh water ArchiMer
Aminot, Alain; Kerouel, Roger.
A segmented flow automated method with on-line photo-oxidation for the determination of dissolved organic phosphorus + soluble reactive phosphorus (DOP + SRP) in seawater and fresh water is described here. A low-power lamp was used for a compact, easy-to-handle and low-ozone-producing manifold. The influence of seawater matrix components was studied in detail using natural seawater and salt solutions spiked with DOP model compounds. Bromide was found to be the most inhibitory species in seawater. The work shows that most salt solutions referred to as artificial seawater are not satisfactory model matrices to test the actual seawater matrix effect. Since DOP recovered in undiluted seawater samples was about half that obtained in fresh water samples, the...

Suspended Sediment Dynamics in the Macrotidal Seine Estuary (France) - Part 1: Numerical Modeling of Turbidity Maximum Dynamics ArchiMer
Grasso, Florent; Verney, Romaric; Le Hir, Pierre; Thouvenin, Benedicte; Schulz, Elisabeth; Kervella, Youenn; Fard, I. Khojasteh Pour; Lemoine, J. -p.; Dumas, Franck; Garnier, Valerie.
Tidal pumping, baroclinic circulation and vertical mixing are known to be the main mechanisms responsible for the estuarine turbidity maximum (ETM) formation. However, the influence of hydro-meteorological conditions on ETM dynamics is still not properly grasped and requires further investigation to be quantified. Based on a realistic 3-dimensional numerical model of the macrotidal Seine Estuary (France) that accounts for mud and sand transport processes, the objective of this study is to quantify the influence of the main forcing (river flow, tides, waves) on the ETM location and mass changes. As expected, the ETM location is strongly modulated by semidiurnal tidal cycles and fortnightly timescales with a high sensitivity to river flow variations. The ETM...

Stature and its Estimation Utilizing Arm Span Measurements in Kosovan Adults: National Survey International Journal of Morphology
Arifi,Fitim; Bjelica,Dusko; Sermaxhaj,Sami; Gardasevic,Jovan; Kezunovic,Miroslav; Popovic,Stevo.
The purpose of this research is to examine stature in both Kosovan sexes as well as its association with arm span, as an alternative to estimating stature. A total of 1623 individuals (830 boys and 793 girls) participated in this research. The anthropometric measurements were taken according to the protocol of ISAK. The relationships between stature and arm span were determined using simple correlation coefficients at a ninety-five percent confidence interval. Then a linear regression analysis was carried out to examine extent to which arm span can reliably predict stature. Results displayed that Kosovan boys are 179.52±5.96 cm tall and have an arm span of 181.29±7.02 cm, while Kosovan girls are 165.72±4.93 cm tall and have an arm span of 165.60±5.87 cm....

Methodological Agreement between Body-Composition Methods in Young Soccer Players Stratified by Zinc Plasma Levels International Journal of Morphology
de Oliveira-Junior,Astrogildo Vianna; Casimiro-Lopes,Gustavo; Donangelo,Carmem Marino; Koury,Josely Correa; Farinatti,Paulo de Tarso Veras; Massuça,Luís; Fragoso,Isabel.
It is feasible to think that the body composition assessment may be influenced by maturational and zinc status, especially in young athletes, which perform regularly high volume of physical training. In accordance, it seems important to clarify the impact of these factors in body composition assessment in athletes, since errors may lead to mistakes in training prescription and diet elaboration, and therefore affect the athletic performance. The objective was to compare (1) different methods of body composition evaluation in young soccer players stratified by zinc plasma levels; and (2) the two reference methods using skinfolds thickness in children (Slaughter's and Lohman's equations), considering the maturation level. In this cross-sectional study, fifty...

Quantitative Study on Human Cerebellar Cortex from Anatomy Cadaver Preparations International Journal of Morphology
Kalanjati,V. P; Dewi,A. K; Santoso,M. W. A.
Human cerebellum is important for motor coordination; muscle tones and maintaing the equilibrium of the body. In our region, limited data is available on the normal morphology of human cerebellum, whilst fresh biopsy is quite difficult to obtain. Here adult male cerebellum from cadaver anatomy preparations embalmed with 37 % formalin fixative solution for over a year are studied (n=3). After removal, right cerebellum hemisphere was sliced into cubicle then temporary soaked into 50-60 % of alcohol before being paraffinated. Two parasagittal adjacent slices from each sample were deparaffinated (5 µm) and then stained with hematoxyllin-eosin (HE). Slides were observed under light microscope (Olympus, Japan). Pictures were analysed from 6 field numbers of...

Environmental Design and Analysis in Marine Environmental Sampling OceanDocs
Underwood, A.J..
The IOC-IMO-UNEP/GIPME Groups of Experts on Effects of Pollution (GEEP) has been working for a number of years on promoting new ways of understanding how pollutants affect marine biological systems. A major initial focus of GEEP was on calibration workshops where different methods were tested against one another. The Oslo (1986), Bermuda (1988) and Bremerhaven (1992) workshop publications are widely regarded as benchmarks demonstrating that biological effects methods are reliable tools for measurement of the effects of pollutants discharged to the marine environment. IOC through GEEP, in cooperation with UNEP, has published a series of manuals based on the successful techniques and these are listed at the back of this volume. Monitoring programmes for...

Manual of Marine Meteorological Observations, Eighth edition. OceanDocs
The Conference of Brussels, called in 1853, was the first International Maritime Conference ever held. It sponsored the idea that Governments should foster systematic weather observations on ships, and should prepare and publish charts of the prevailing winds, ocean currents, average sea and air temperatures, and tracks of dangerous storms based on the additional data. With the introduction of radio and fast ships, weather information became of vital importance to safe and efficient ship operation. Many countries began regularly scheduled weather forecasts to ships in nearby waters. Today, weather forecasts as well as charts arc prepared from data collected through ship observations. Forecasts of weather and sea conditions arc prepared for ship operation,...

Instructions to the Marine Meteorological Observers, 7th Edition. OceanDocs
The ocean meteorological program of the Weather Bureau has two separate and distinct parts. First, there is the daily service by radio. Owing to the need for brevity, the radio reports contain a limited amount of essential information. The daily weather reports from ships and islands reveal the conditions over the ocean; when assembled on a map, including continental reports, they give a picture of weather conditions existing momentarily over a large region. A collection of observations is immediately returned to the mariner by radio broadcast so that he may draw his own weather map on shipboard. By this process, the weather at the earth's surface is mapped and much can be inferred as to conditions above the surface. Formation and movement of storms are...
