Carcass characteristics and meat quality of heavy swine fed different citrus pulp levels Arq. Bras. Med. Vet. Zootec.
Watanabe,P.H.; Thomaz,M.C.; Ruiz,U.S.; Santos,V.M.; Masson,G.C. I; Fraga,A.L.; Pascoal,L.A.F.; Robles-Huaynate,R.A.; Silva,S.Z..
An assay with 36 swine initially weighting 83.7±5.1kg body weight (BW) was carried out to evaluate the effects of the use of different dietary citrus pulp levels, 0, 10%, 20%, and 30%, upon digestive organs weights, carcass characteristics, and meat quality of animals subjected to qualitative feed restriction program, and slaughtered at 130kg BW. Linear response (P<0.05) on the weight of stomach, colon, and liver were observed. Negative linear responses (P<0.05) on final BW and carcass yield relative to citrus pulp addition to the diet were observed. Although a negative linear effect (P<0.05) of increasing dietary levels of citrus pulp had been observed on ham weight, yield of this by product was not affected (P>0.05). Higher levels of...

Effect of inclusion of citrus pulp in the diet of finishing swines BABT
Watanabe,Pedro Henrique; Thomaz,Maria Cristina; Ruiz,Urbano dos Santos; Santos,Vivian Maia dos; Fraga,Alessandro Luís; Pascoal,Leonardo Augusto Fonseca; Silva,Susana Zaneti da; Faria,Henrique Gonzáles de.
The aim of this work was to study the effect of inclusion of citrus pulp in the diet of finishing pigs. In the first trial, 16 Topigs barrows with 80.5±4.7 kg of initial BW were used to evaluate the digestibility of citrus pulp. Having 18.85% of neutral detergent fiber and 41.18% of neutral detergent soluble fiber, citrus pulp showed as a feasible alternative ingredient to be added in the diets of feed restricted finishing pigs. Second trial tested the use of 0, 10, 20, 30% of citrus pulp in the diets of 36-feed-restricted barrows with initial BW of 83.7±5.1 kg. A quadratic trend (P<0.05) as function of citrus pulp levels was observed for daily weight gain and number of experimental days to reach 130kg BW, being the best estimated inclusion levels of...

Effects of diets with increasing levels of citrus pulp on the blood parameters linked to energy metabolism in horses Ciência e Agrotecnologia
Menezes,Madalena Lima; Brandi,Roberta Ariboni; Bueno,Ives Cláudio da Silva; Balieiro,Júlio Cesar de Carvalho; Moreira,Camilla Garcia; Nascimento,Olivia Carmen de Araújo.
Currently, the use of alternative energy ingredients for horses has increased because these foods contain "superfibers", making safer diet for these animals. To study the influence of diets containing increasing levels of citrus pulp on albumin, triglycerides, cholesterol, glucose, insulin and short chain fatty acid (SCFA) concentrations in the blood, five animals were used, with an average age of 3.5 years and a live weight of 460.66±76.86 kg, they were fed twice a day, at 7:00 am and 4:00 pm. The diets were formulated to meet the requirements of the animals at maintenance. 60% of the energy was obtained from forage, and 40% from concentrate, containing the following inclusion levels of citrus pulp (0, 7, 14, 21 and 28%). The area under the curve (AUC)...

Physico-chemical, sensory and nutritional characteristics of cereal bars with addition of acacia gum, inulin and sorbitol Ciênc. Tecnol. Aliment.
SREBERNICH,Silvana Mariana; GONÇALVES,Gisele Mara Silva; ORMENESE,Rita de Cássia Salvucci Celeste; RUFFI,Cristiane Rodrigues Gomes.
Abstract The cereal bars are products globally accepted and consumed by all age groups. In this study, by Response Surface Methodology (RSM), the effects of different concentrations of inulin, acacia gum and sorbitol in the characteristics of hardness, color and water activity of cereal bars were studied. A total of 17 experiments being 8 factorials, 6 axials and 3 repetitions at the central point were performed. The regression model presented for the hardness was significant indicating that the quantities of inulin, acacia gum and sorbitol affect the hardness of the cereal bars. Referring to color it was observed that the less inulin and more sorbitol, the more yellow the tone of the bars was. The results of water activity were not influenced by the...

Effect of pectin extracted from citrus pulp on digesta characteristics and nutrient digestibility in broilers chickens R. Bras. Zootec.
Silva,Vanessa Karla; Morita,Viviane de Souza; Boleli,Isabel Cristina.
The experiment was carried out to evaluate the effects of continuous ingestion of pectin on intestinal viscosity, intestinal transit time, excreta moisture content, nutrient digestibility and energy metabolism of broilers at starter and growth phases. We used 240 one-day-old Cobb male broiler chicks, distributed in a completely randomized experimental design. Treatments consisted of four concentrations of pectin (0, 10, 30 and 50 g kg-1) with six replicates of 10 birds each. The ingestion of pectin supplied in the feed by broilers at the starter phase increased intestinal viscosity and intestinal transit time, reduced excreta moisture, improved the use of apparent metabolizable energy, nitrogen-corrected apparent metabolizable energy, coefficient of...
