Although it induces synchronized ovulation, hCG reduces the fertility of Santa Ines ewes submitted to TAI Arq. Bras. Med. Vet. Zootec.
Dias,L.M.K.; Sales,J.N.S.; Viau,P.; Barros,M.B.P.; Nicolau,S.S.; Simões,L.M.S.; Alves,N.G.; Alonso,M.A.; Valentim,R.; Oliveira,C.A..
ABSTRACT The aim of this study was to evaluate hCG treatment on ovarian response and on pregnancy rate using a 9-day oestrus synchronization protocol in Santa Ines ewes. On a random oestrus cycle day, ewes received an intravaginal progesterone device (Primer-PR®, Tecnopec, Brazil). Nine days later (Day 9), 30µg of d-cloprostenol (Prolise®, Syntex, Argentina) and 250IU of eCG (Folligon®, Intervet, Brazil) were administered and the progesterone device was removed. This moment, the ewes were randomly assigned on two groups: Control Group and hCG Group. In the hCG Group, the ewes received 500IU of hCG (Vetecor®, Hertape-Calier, Spain) 24h after device removal. In the Control Group, the ewes did not receive any ovulation inductor. Control and hCG Groups ewes...

One hundred million years of interhemispheric communication: the history of the corpus callosum BJMBR
Aboitiz,F.; Montiel,J..
Analysis of regional corpus callosum fiber composition reveals that callosal regions connecting primary and secondary sensory areas tend to have higher proportions of coarse-diameter, highly myelinated fibers than callosal regions connecting so-called higher-order areas. This suggests that in primary/secondary sensory areas there are strong timing constraints for interhemispheric communication, which may be related to the process of midline fusion of the two sensory hemifields across the hemispheres. We postulate that the evolutionary origin of the corpus callosum in placental mammals is related to the mechanism of midline fusion in the sensory cortices, which only in mammals receive a topographically organized representation of the sensory surfaces. The...

Reproductive performance of fixed-time artificial insemination in swine and factors for the technology success Ciência Rural
Quirino,Monike; Pinheiro,Ana Raquel Almeida; Santos,Joabel Tonellotto dos; Ulguim,Rafael da Rosa; Mellagi,Ana Paula Gonçalves; Bortolozzo,Fernando Pandolfo.
ABSTRACT: Fixed-time artificial insemination (FTAI) is a reproductive technology that aids in obtaining an appropriate time to perform single artificial insemination (AI), thus reducing the number of inseminations per sow bred. FTAI protocols can either be based on estrus detection or day of weaning, aiming to synchronize ovulation using ovulation inducers. The protocols involving estrus detection usually employ porcine luteinizing hormone (pLH) as an inducer and, in general, satisfactory reproductive performance is observed. For protocols based on weaning day, the main hormone used is analog of gonadotropin-releasing hormone such as triptorelin and buserelin. Regardless of the protocol, the number of piglets born is usually not affected by FTAI. However,...

Influencia del aporte de progesterona exógena (CIDR) post-inseminación sobre la fertilidad de ovinos de las razas cruza Suffolk-Dorset. Colegio de Postgraduados
Torres Lemus, Fidel Miguel.

Independent tephrochronological evidence for rapid and synchronous oceanic and atmospheric temperature rises over the Greenland stadial-interstadial transitions between ca. 32 and 40 ka b2k ArchiMer
Berben, Sarah M.p.; Dokken, Trond M.; Abbott, Peter M.; Cook, Eliza; Sadatzki, Henrik; Simon, Margit H; Jansen, Eystein.
Understanding the dynamics that drove past abrupt climate changes, such as the Dansgaard-Oeschger (DO) events, depends on combined proxy evidence from disparate archives. To identify leads, lags and synchronicity between different climate system components, independent and robust chronologies are required. Cryptotephrochronology is a key geochronological tool as cryptotephra horizons can act as isochrons linking disparate and/or distant records. Here, we investigated marine sediment core MD99-2284 from the Norwegian Sea to look for previously identified Greenland ice core cryptotephra horizons and define time-parallel markers between the archives. We explored potential secondary transport and depositional mechanisms that could hamper the isochronous...

Pfeifer,Luiz Francisco Machado; Siqueira,Luiz Gustavo Bruno; Arashiro,Eduardo Kenji Nunes; Castro,Natália Ávila de; Viana,João Henrique Moreira.
Abstract: The objective of this work was to compare two types of ovulation inducers - estradiol benzoate (EB group) or prostaglandin F2α (PG group) -, in postpartum dairy cows subjected to timed artificial insemination (TAI). Lactating Holstein-Gir crossbred cows (n=118) with 60 to 120 days of milk production were used in this study. All cows were treated with an intravaginal progesterone-releasing device (CIDR) plus 2 mg of estradiol benzoate (EB) on day 0. The CIDR inserts were removed on day 9, and all cows received 500 µg sodium cloprostenol. Twenty-four hours after CIDR removal, cows were randomly assigned into two treatment groups and were given either 1 mg of EB i.m. (EB group) or 500 µg sodium cloprostenol i.m. (PG group). TAI were performed at 52...

Effects of long-term controlled internal drug release reuse on reproductive performance, hormone profiles, and economic profit of sheep R. Bras. Zootec.
Swelum,Ayman Abdel-Aziz; Saadeldin,Islam M.; Moumen,Abdullah F.; Ali,Mohamed; Ba-Awadh,Hani; Alowaimer,Abdullah N..
ABSTRACT Fifty-seven multiparous Awassi ewes in the breeding season were used to compare the effects of controlled internal drug release (CIDR) reuse on hormone profiles, reproductive performance, and economic production. Ewes were randomly allotted to one of three CIDR treatments: new (control), once-used, and twice-used; treatment lasted 12 days. Blood samples were collected from all groups at the time of CIDR insertion, three and six days following insertion, at withdrawal time, and at insemination. Serum estradiol (E2) and progesterone (P4) concentrations were measured. Timed insemination was performed 48 h post CIDR withdrawal in all groups. Pregnancy was diagnosed by ultrasonography at day 23 post insemination. No significant differences were...
