Fertilización inicial de plantaciones comerciales de teca (Tectona grandis Linn F.) en el municipio de Balancán, Tabasco. Colegio de Postgraduados
Balam Che, Manuel Anastacio.

RETENTION CURVES AND AVAILABLE WATER CAPACITY IN LATOSOLS REA
Maia,Felipe C. de O.; Bufon,Vinicius B.; Leão,Tairone P..
ABSTRACT Water stored in the soil between field capacity and the permanent wilting point, is known as the available water capacity. Its availability to be effectively used by plants depends on the type of soil and its water retention characteristics. The aim of this work was to compile information about water retention curves in Latosols, and to provide a first approximation of values and most likely amplitudes for water storage and available water capacity of these soils. The database was constituted from information collected from articles, theses, dissertations and other publications. Soil water retention curves, as well as available water, were estimated for the order Latosols, and for the suborders Red Latosol (RL), Red-Yellow Latosol (RYL) and Yellow...

Management zones using fuzzy clustering based on spatial-temporal variability of soil and corn yield REA
Rodrigues,Marcos S.; Corá,José E..
Clustering soil and crop data can be used as a basis for the definition of management zones because the data are grouped into clusters based on the similar interaction of these variables. Therefore, the objective of this study was to identify management zones using fuzzy c-means clustering analysis based on the spatial and temporal variability of soil attributes and corn yield. The study site (18 by 250-m in size) was located in Jaboticabal, São Paulo/Brazil. Corn yield was measured in one hundred 4.5 by 10-m cells along four parallel transects (25 observations per transect) over five growing seasons between 2001 and 2010. Soil chemical and physical attributes were measured. SAS procedure MIXED was used to identify which variable(s) most influenced the...

Boron adsorption in soils from the State of São Paulo, Brazil PAB
ALLEONI,LUÍS REYNALDO FERRACCIÚ; CAMARGO,OTÁVIO ANTONIO DE.
Boron adsorption was studied in five representative soils (Rhodic Hapludox, Arenic Paleudalf and three Typic Hapludox) from the State of São Paulo, Brazil. Adsorption was higher in the clayey Oxisols, followed by the Alfisol and the coarser Oxisols. Calcium carbonate promoted an increase in the amount of adsorbed boron in all soils, with the most pronounced effect in the coarser-textured Oxisols. High correlation coefficients were found between adsorbed boron and clay and amorphous aluminum oxide contents and specific surface area (r = 0.79, 0.76 and 0.73, respectively, p < 0.01). Clay content, free aluminum oxide, and hot CaCl2 (0.01 mol L-1)-extracted boron explained 93% of the variation of adsorbed boron. Langmuir and Freundlich isotherms fitted well...

Functional diversity of bacterial genes associated with aromatic hydrocarbon degradation in anthropogenic dark earth of Amazonia PAB
Germano,Mariana Gomes; Cannavan,Fabiana de Souza; Mendes,Lucas William; Lima,Amanda Barbosa; Teixeira,Wenceslau Geraldes; Pellizari,Vivian Helena; Tsai,Siu Mui.
The objective of this work was to evaluate the catabolic gene diversity for the bacterial degradation of aromatic hydrocarbons in anthropogenic dark earth of Amazonia (ADE) and their biochar (BC). Functional diversity analyses in ADE soils can provide information on how adaptive microorganisms may influence the fertility of soils and what is their involvement in biogeochemical cycles. For this, clone libraries containing the gene encoding for the alpha subunit of aromatic ring-hydroxylating dioxygenases (α-ARHD bacterial gene) were constructed, totaling 800 clones. These libraries were prepared from samples of an ADE soil under two different land uses, located at the Caldeirão Experimental Station - secondary forest (SF) and agriculture (AG) -, and the...

Aggregate stability in soils cultivated with eucalyptus PAB
Avanzi,Junior Cesar; Norton,Lloyd Darrell; Silva,Marx Leandro Naves; Curi,Nilton; Oliveira,Anna Hoffmann; Silva,Mayesse Aparecida da.
The objective of this work was to evaluate the aggregate stability of tropical soils under eucalyptus plantation and native vegetation, and assess the relationships between aggregate stability and some soil chemical and physical properties. Argisols, Cambisol, Latosols and Plinthosol within three eucalyptus-cultivated regions, in the states of Espírito Santo, Rio Grande do Sul and Minas Gerais, Brazil, were studied. For each region, soils under native vegetation were compared to those under minimum tillage with eucalyptus cultivation. The aggregate stability was measured using the high-energy moisture characteristic (HEMC) technique, i.e., the moisture release curve at very low suctions. This method compares the resistance of aggregates to slaking on a...

Agronomic and P recovery efficiency of organomineral phosphate fertilizer from poultry litter in sandy and clayey soils PAB
Sá,Jerusa Maia e; Jantalia,Cláudia Pozzi; Teixeira,Paulo César; Polidoro,José Carlos; Benites,Vinícius de Melo; Araújo,Adelson Paulo.
Abstract: The objective of this work was to evaluate agronomic and P recovery efficiencies of a granulated organomineral phosphate fertilizer (OMF) produced from poultry litter, compared with those of monoammonium phosphate (MAP), in soils with different textures. The experiment followed a 2x2x4+2 factorial arrangement, with two Oxisols (sandy loam and clay loam textures), two sources of P (OMF and MAP), four levels of P (50, 100, 200, and 400 mg kg-1), besides two control treatments without P application. The treatments were evaluated in 10-kg pots filled with soil, during four successive cultivations of corn without replacing the P absorbed by the plants, in order to evaluate the actual and residual effects of the fertilizers. Available P contents in the...

Pedotransfer functions to predict water retention for soils of the humid tropics: a review Rev. Bras. Ciênc. Solo
Botula,Yves-Dady; Van Ranst,Eric; Cornelis,Wim M..
Over the past three decades, pedotransfer functions (PTFs) have been widely used by soil scientists to estimate soils properties in temperate regions in response to the lack of soil data for these regions. Several authors indicated that little effort has been dedicated to the prediction of soil properties in the humid tropics, where the need for soil property information is of even greater priority. The aim of this paper is to provide an up-to-date repository of past and recently published articles as well as papers from proceedings of events dealing with water-retention PTFs for soils of the humid tropics. Of the 35 publications found in the literature on PTFs for prediction of water retention of soils of the humid tropics, 91 % of the PTFs are based on...

Land-use systems affect Archaeal community structure and functional diversity in western Amazon soils Rev. Bras. Ciênc. Solo
Navarrete,Acácio Aparecido; Taketani,Rodrigo Gouvêa; Mendes,Lucas William; Cannavan,Fabiana de Souza; Moreira,Fatima Maria de Souza; Tsai,Siu Mui.
The study of the ecology of soil microbial communities at relevant spatial scales is primordial in the wide Amazon region due to the current land use changes. In this study, the diversity of the Archaea domain (community structure) and ammonia-oxidizing Archaea (richness and community composition) were investigated using molecular biology-based techniques in different land-use systems in western Amazonia, Brazil. Soil samples were collected in two periods with high precipitation (March 2008 and January 2009) from Inceptisols under primary tropical rainforest, secondary forest (5-20 year old), agricultural systems of indigenous people and cattle pasture. Denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis of polymerase chain reaction-amplified DNA (PCR-DGGE) using the...

Micromorphology and Genesis of Soils from Topolitosequences in the Brazilian Central Plateau Rev. Bras. Ciênc. Solo
Rolim Neto,Fernando Cartaxo; Schaefer,Carlos Ernesto Gonçalves Reynaud; Camêlo,Danilo de Lima; Corrêa,Marcelo Metri; Parahyba,Roberto da Boa Viagem; Caldas,Anildo Monteiro; Ibraimo,Anifo Soares Mamudo.
ABSTRACT The micromorphology of deeply weathered soils (Ferralsols/ Latossolos ) from the Central Plateau of Brazil remains little studied, and its affiliation to different parent materials, poorly known. To clarify the processes of soil formation of these acric, gibbsitic, Fe-oxide rich Ferralsols, three lithotoposequences on local ultrabasic to basic intrusive rocks were studied. The influences of mixing and pedobioturbation are evident in all soils, and Ferralsols of the Central Plateau of Brazil are polygenetic, based on the coarse mineral composition, with ultrabasic and metapelitic rock contributions. The typical oxic microstructure with stable microaggregates encompasses a gibbsite/Fe rich micromass with random inclusions of charcoal, allochthonous...

Phosphorus Forms in Ultisol Submitted to Burning and Trituration of Vegetation in Eastern Amazon Rev. Bras. Ciênc. Solo
Farias,Samuel Christian Cohen; Silva Júnior,Mário Lopes da; Ruivo,Maria de Lourdes Pinheiro; Rodrigues,Possidônio Guimarães; Melo,Vânia Silva de; Costa,Adriane da Rocha; Souza Júnior,João Cardoso de.
ABSTRACT The use of fire to prepare agricultural areas is a technique still used by small farmers in eastern Amazon. This type of management changes the dynamics of soil nutrients, especially phosphorus, which constitutes the most limiting nutrient for crop production in tropical soils. This study was carried out to evaluate changes in phosphorus forms in an Argissolo Amarelo Distrófico (Ultisol) submitted to burning and trituration of secondary forest in eastern Amazon. The evaluated systems were: slash-and-burn of vegetation; slash-and-mulch of vegetation; and secondary vegetation. The labile, moderately labile, moderately recalcitrant, available and total phosphorus fractions were assessed at the soil depths of 0.00-0.05, 0.05-0.10 and 0.10-0.20 m. The...

Availability of a soluble phosphorus source applied to soil samples with different acidicity levels Rev. Bras. Ciênc. Solo
Viégas,Ricardo Almeida; Novais,Roberto Ferreira; Schulthais,Fernanda.
Considerations on the interactions of P in the soil-plant system have a long history, but are still topical and not yet satisfactorily understood. One concern is the effect of liming before or after application of soluble sources on the crop yield and efficiency of available P under these conditions. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of soil acidity on availability of P from a soluble source, based on plant growth and chemical extractants. Nine soil samples were incubated with a dose of 200 mg kg-1 P in soil with different levels of previously adjusted acidity (pH H2O 4.5; 5.0; 5.5; 6.0 and 6.5) and compared to soils without P application. After 40 days of soil incubation with a P source, each treatment was limed again so that all pH values...

Kinetics of phosphorus sorption in soils in the state of Paraíba¹ Rev. Bras. Ciênc. Solo
Santos,Hemmannuella Costa; Oliveira,Fábio Henrique Tavares de; Salcedo,Ignácio Hernan; Souza,Adailson Pereira de; Mota Silva,Valério Damásio da.
The soil P sorption capacity has been studied for many years, but little attention has been paid to the rate of this process, which is relevant in the planning of phosphate fertilization. The purpose of this experiment was to assess kinetics of P sorption in 12 representative soil profiles of the State of Paraíba (Brazil), select the best data fitting among four equations and relate these coefficients to the soil properties. Samples of 12 soils with wide diversity of physical, chemical and mineralogical properties were agitated in a horizontal shaker, with 10 mmo L-1 CaCl2 solution containing 6 and 60 mg L-1 P, for periods of 5, 15, 30, 45, 60, 90, 120, 420, 720, 1,020, and 1,440 min. After each shaking period, the P concentration in the equilibrium...

Relationship between soil oxidizable carbon and physical, chemical and mineralogical properties of umbric ferralsols Rev. Bras. Ciênc. Solo
Marques,Flávio Adriano; Calegari,Márcia Regina; Vidal-Torrado,Pablo; Buurman,Peter.
The occurrence of Umbric Ferralsols with thick umbric epipedons (> 100 cm thickness) in humid Tropical and Subtropical areas is a paradox since the processes of organic matter decomposition in these environments are very efficient. Nevertheless, this soil type has been reported in areas in the Southeast and South of Brazil, and at some places in the Northeast. Aspects of the genesis and paleoenvironmental significance of these Ferralsols still need a better understanding. The processes that made the umbric horizons so thick and dark and contributed to the preservation of organic carbon (OC) at considerable depths in these soils are of special interest. In this study, eight Ferralsols with a thick umbric horizon (UF) under different vegetation types...

Nitrate role in basic cation leaching under no-till Rev. Bras. Ciênc. Solo
Crusciol,Carlos Alexandre Costa; Garcia,Rodrigo Arroyo; Castro,Gustavo Spadotti Amaral; Rosolem,Ciro Antonio.
Especially under no-tillage, subsuface soil acidity has been a problem, because it depends on base leaching, which has been associated with the presence of low molecular weigth organic acids and companion anions. The objective of this study was to evaluate exchangeable base cation leaching as affected by surface liming along with annual urea side-dressing of maize and upland rice. Treatments consisted of four lime rates (0, 1500, 3000, and 6000 kg ha-1) combined with four nitrogen rates (0, 50, 100, and 150 kg ha-1) applied to maize (Zea mays) and upland rice (Oryza sativa), in two consecutive years. Maize was planted in December, three months after liming. In September of the following year, pearl millet (Pennisetum glaucum) was planted without...

Assessment of Trace Element Contents in Soils and Water from Cerrado Wetlands, Triângulo Mineiro Region Rev. Bras. Ciênc. Solo
Ribeiro,Bruno Teixeira; Nascimento,Diogo Costa; Curi,Nilton; Guilherme,Luiz Roberto Guimarães; Costa,Enio Tarso de Souza; Lopes,Guilherme; Carneiro,João Paulo.
ABSTRACT In the Brazilian Cerrado biome, there are wetlands locally known as “Veredas”, which are swampy plains between hills and rivers. Since the 1970’s, the Cerrado biome has been gradually converted to livestock, crop, or forestry production. Until now, very few studies were conducted to evaluate the baseline contents of trace elements in Cerrado wetland soils. Due to their position in the landscape (bottom lands), the wetlands are potentially susceptible to contamination by runoff and/or leaching from surrounding areas at higher altitudes. This work evaluated the As, Cd, Pb, Ni, Zn, Cu, Mn, and Fe contents in soils from six wetlands (undisturbed and disturbed) in the Minas Gerais Triangle region, Brazil. In each wetland, we collected topsoil samples...
