Limitation of water resources is one of the major factors in the agricultural development of Iran. In recent years. Iran suffers from increases water consumption and drought conditions, This is why efficient water management in agriculture production becomes an inevitable requirement. One of the main aspects of water management in agriculture production is operating any type of irrigation system efficiently. A good on-farm irrigation water management requires a routine monitoring of soil water content (SWC). Recently a substantial number of different experimental methods in categories of direct, indirect, ground based and remote sensing have been developed to determine the SWC, and a large...

Prevalence of hepatitis A virus in sea food in Iran Arq. Bras. Med. Vet. Zootec.
Momtaz,H.; Rahimi,E.; Hajian,S.; Momeni,M..
The objective of this study was to determine the prevalence of Hepatitis A Virus (HAV) in sea food samples in the Isfahan and Shahrekord townships in Iran. From September 2010 to April 2011, a total of 300 samples of fresh fish, shrimp, crab and lobster were obtained from randomly selected retail stores in the Isfahan and Shahrekord townships in Iran. The samples were tested for the presence of HAV using a reverse transcriptase- polymerase chain reaction method. Out of the total number of samples examined, 8 (2.7%) were found to be positive for HAV. This virus was detected in 5% and 1.7% of fresh fish and shrimp, respectively. This study shows the importance of sea food as potential...

New Faunistic Records of Armoured Scale Insects of Southern Iran (Hemiptera: Diaspididae) BABT
Rouhani,Mohammad; Vahedi,Hassan Ali; Marefat,Alireza.
ABSTRACT As a result of recent field work in southern Iran from 2012 to 2016, twenty species of armoured scale insects were collected, representing two subfamilies (Aspidiotinae and Diaspidinae) and 4 tribes including Aspidiotini (8 species in 5 genera), Diaspidini (4 species in 2 genera), Leucaspidini (5 species in 4 genera) and Parlatoriini (3 species in 1 genus). The species Diaspidiotus gigas (Thiem and Gerneck), is illustrated and redescribed from Iran for the first time. In addition, four species are reported and redescribed from south of Iran for the first time: Aspidiotus nerii Bouché, Diaspidiotus armenicus Borchsenius, Leucaspis pusilla Löw,...

Dasypoda (Megadasypoda) intermedia spec. nov. (Hymenoptera: Apoidea: Melittidae), a new species from Iran Naturalis
Michez, D..
Dasypoda intermedia spec. nov. from Iran is described. Its description fills a gap of our knowledge of the East Mediterranean fauna of the genus Dasypoda. The West Mediterranean Dasypoda species are well known but the eastern species lack convincing records. Moreover, D. intermedia spec. nov. is a very interesting species from a phylogenetic point of view. It shares some characters common to subgenera Dasypoda s. str. and Megadasypoda Michez, 2004, which provide further evidence for the close relationship of both subgenera.

Description of Gammarus balutchi spec. nov. (Amphipoda: Gammaridae) from Iran, based on light and electron microscopy Naturalis
Khalaji-Pirbalouty, V.; Sari, A..
In the present study, a new endemic gammarid amphipod, Gammarus balutchi spec. nov. is described from Charmahal-Va-Bakhteyari province, Iran. A description is given using light and electron microscopes. Comparison of SEM micrographs shows that pore density and patterns are reliable diagnostic characters at the species level based on ultrastructural study of the head.

First report of lemon verbena crown rot caused by Phytophthora cactorum in Iran Phyton
Moshrefi Zarandi,D; Aminaee,MM; Rezaee,S; Sharzei,A.
Lemon verbena (Lippia citriodora) is a medicinal plant from the Verbenacea family. Its plantation and medicinal use in Iran has risen greatly in recent years. Crown and root rot symptoms were observed on this plant in some farms and greenhouses of Kerman province during November 2012. The infected plants were taken to the laboratory. Then, samples of infected root tissues were removed and were surface sterilized with 0.5% sodium hypochlorite and cultured onto CMA-PARPH medium. Based on morphological features, the isolated fungus was identified as Phytophthora cactorum. Pathogenicity test was performed using inoculated wheat seeds. To our knowledge this is the first report of Phytophthora cactorum on lemon verbena in

An Examination of the Relationship between Food Prices and Government Monetary Policies in Iran AgEcon
Shahnoushi, Naser; Henneberry, Shida Rastegari; Manssori, Hooman.
This study examines the relationship between food prices and monetary policy variables, using a Vector Error Correction Model (VECM) approach applied to annual data from 1976 to 2006. Results indicate that food prices in Iran have a long-run and short-run equilibrium granger causality relationship with money supply. More specifically, monetary policy reforms are shown to have a significant impact on food prices and domestic agricultural production. These policies influence consumption patterns and have serious implications for poverty reduction, food security issues, and agricultural growth in Iran.
