A 17-year-old, gray Thoroughbred gelding was presented with recurrent epistaxis following exercise for over one year. Multidetector-row computed tomographic (MDCT) examination of the head performed under general anesthesia indicated the presence of malignant melanoma. MDCT examination revealed the exact location and size of masses in the right guttural pouch first identified by endoscopy and in the left guttural pouch unidentified by endoscopy. MDCT examination revealed the presence of a blood clot that filled the right maxillary sinus. The horse was euthanized due to poor prognosis as a riding horse and the owner's decision, and

Basic Assessment of Diagnosis by MDCT in Horses OAK
SASAKI, Naoki; KIKUCHI, Takuya; YAMADA, Kazutaka; HIGUCHI, Tohru; SATO, Motoyoshi; YAMADA, Haruo; 佐々木, 直樹; 山田, 一孝.
In this equine study, we used an MDCT unit and a trestle for large animals to assess the utility of MDCT in the diagnosis locomotor system disorders and problems in the head and spine. We used a mature thoroughbred horse under general anesthesia and 5 specimens. For specimens, MDCT images were compared with other images taken by a computed radiography X-ray unit. In the live horse, use of the trestle for large animals enabled scanning under general anesthesia. In specimens, MDCT created 3D images of the fractured lesions and evaluation of multiple cross-sectional and sagittal images was possible. Further, multiple sagittal...

Ulusoy,Mahinur; Kivrak,Ali Sami; Uysal,Ismihan Ilknur; Karabulut,Ahmet Kagan; Paksoy,Yahya; Fazliogullari,Zeliha.
Anomalies of the bronchial tree may cause recurrent acute pulmonary infection and persistent obstruction symptoms. The developmental anomalies of the bronchial tree were presented mostly as case reports with an accompanying anomaly. However in this study, these anomalies were detected in multidetector computerized tomography (MDCT) images which have no reported pathology. Thoracic MDCT images of 400 patients (0-74 years old, 224 male and 176 female) were evaluated. Four tracheal bronchus (1%) were detected. Three of them were displaced type, one of them was pig bronchus. And two accessory cardiac bronchus (0,5%) originated from medial wall of the intermediate bronchus were detected....

Predicting the Presence of an Accessory Hepatic Vein Using Abdominal Computed Tomography International Journal of Morphology
Kim,Hyung Soo; Lee,Chang Hee; Kim,Seong Hyun; Kim,Jeong Woo; Park,Cheol Min; Yeom,Suk Keu.
The incidence of detection of accessory hepatic vein (AHV) using MRI or CT has been reported. However, previous studies had a small sample size or only reported on the incidence of hepatic vein variants. To the best of our knowledge, there has been no previous report evaluating the factors predictive of the presence of an AHV. To evaluate the incidence and morphology of the accessory hepatic vein (AHV) using multidetector row computed tomography (MDCT) and to investigate the factors which may be helpful in predicting the presence of an AHV. We enrolled 360 patients who underwent abdominal MDCT. We investigated whether the AHV was present and evaluated the frequency of AHVs greater than 5...

Three-Dimensional Reconstruction of Columna Vertebralis Images of Elite Male Weightlifters Taken by a Multi-Detector Computerized Tomography (MDCT) International Journal of Morphology
Ince,Alparslan; Eken,Emrullah.
This study aims to carry out a comparative study on the vertebral structure of the elite male weightlifters and the sedentary group (control group) by obtaining three-dimensional data and models by means of photogrammetry from the columna vertebralis sections taken by MDCT. The columna vertebralis of the 8 male weightlifters and 8 sedentary individuals (control group) was scanned with a high-definition diagnostic MDCT device during the study. The demographic findings suggest no difference in both the weightlifters and the sedentary individual. The 2D axial images in DICOM format were burnt on CDs and then copied on a PC on which 3D-Doctor 4.0, which is a 3D modelling program had already...
