Characterization and nutrient release from silicate rocks and influence on chemical changes in soil Rev. Bras. Ciênc. Solo
Silva,Douglas Ramos Guelfi; Marchi,Giuliano; Spehar,Carlos Roberto; Guilherme,Luiz Roberto Guimarães; Rein,Thomaz Adolpho; Soares,Danilo Araújo; Ávila,Fabrício William.
The expansion of Brazilian agriculture has led to a heavy dependence on imported fertilizers to ensure the supply of the growing food demand. This fact has contributed to a growing interest in alternative nutrient sources, such as ground silicate rocks. It is necessary, however, to know the potential of nutrient release and changes these materials can cause in soils. The purpose of this study was to characterize six silicate rocks and evaluate their effects on the chemical properties of treated soil, assessed by chemical extractants after greenhouse incubation. The experimental design consisted of completely randomized plots, in a 3 x 6 factorial scheme, with four replications. The factors were potassium levels (0-control: without silicate rock...

Carbonate-silicate ratio for soil correction and influence on nutrition, biomass production and quality of palisade grass Scientia Agricola
Souza,Renato Ferreira de; Ávila,Fabrício William; Faquin,Valdemar; Pozza,Adélia Aziz Alexandre; Carvalho,Janice Guedes; Evangelista,Antônio Ricardo.
Silicates can be used as soil correctives, with the advantage of being a source of silicon, a beneficial element to the grasses. However, high concentrations of silicon in the plant would affect the digestibility of the forage. To evaluate the influence of the substitution of the calcium carbonate by calcium silicate on the nutrition, biomass production and the feed quality of the palisade grass [Urochloa brizantha (C. Hochstetter ex A. Rich.) R. Webster], three greenhouse experiments were conducted in completely randomized designs with four replications. Experimental units (pots) contained a clayey dystrophic Rhodic Haplustox, a sandy clay loam dystrophic Typic Haplustox and a sandy loam dystrophic Typic Haplustox. Each soil received substitution...

Selenium behavior in the soil environment and its implication for human health Ciência e Agrotecnologia
Lopes,Guilherme; Ávila,Fabrício William; Guilherme,Luiz Roberto Guimarães.
ABSTRACT Selenium (Se) is an important element that was discovered in 1817, and since the 1960s, it has been regarded as an essential micronutrient for both animals and humans, playing among other functions a relevant role in the antioxidant system of mammals. Inadequate blood Se levels in the human body is a well-known concern in many parts of the world. This malnutrition problem is often due to Se-poor diet, probably as a result of the low Se availability in soils where crops are growing. Nowadays, it is known that not only the total content, but also the inorganic and organic forms of Se contained in foods are important for human nutrition. However, paradoxically some regions of the world present high Se levels in soils causing several functional...

Productivity and efficiency of nitrogen fertilization in maize under different levels of urea and NBPT-treated urea Ciência e Agrotecnologia
Silva,Douglas Ramos Guelfi; Pereira,André Ferreira; Dourado,Ronaldo Liberato; Silva,Frederico Pinto da; Ávila,Fabrício William; Faquin,Valdemar.
The management of nitrogen fertilization is complex due to the various transformations of the nitrogen that occur in the soil-plant-atmosphere system, reducing the efficiency of the fertilization, productivity and the profit margin of the maize production areas. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of different levels of common urea and urea treat with NBPT [N-(n-butyl) thiophosphoric triamide] on the productivity and efficiency of the nitrogen fertilization in maize, correlated with simple economic analysis. The design of the field experiment was in randomized complete blocks with six repetitions, in a 2 x 4 factorial outline, made up of by two sources of nitrogen (urea and NBPT-treated urea) and four levels of nitrogen as top dressing (60, 120, 180...

Nutrition, yield and nutrient export in common bean under zinc fertilization in no-till system Ciência e Agrotecnologia
Kachinski,Wagner Deckij; Ávila,Fabrício William; Muller,Marcelo Marques Lopes; Reis,André Rodrigues dos; Rampim,Leandro; Vidigal,Julio Cezar Borecki.
ABSTRACT Zinc (Zn) is one of the most deficient plant micronutrients in agricultural crops. The objective of this study was to evaluate plant nutrition, grain yield and nutrient export rate in response to soil and foliar Zn fertilization in common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.). Two field experiments in no-till system were carried out using two common bean cultivars, BRS Esteio (black bean) and IPR Campos Gerais (Carioca bean). Treatments were composed of soil Zn application during sowing and foliar Zn spray at flowering stage. Soil Zn application had effect on leaf Zn concentration in IPR Campos Gerais and did not affect grain yield of both cultivars. Foliar Zn spray increased leaf Zn concentration by approximately two times in both cultivars, but...

Souza,Marcos André Silva; Silva,Douglas Ramos Guelfi; Ávila,Fabrício William; Faquin,Valdemar; Oliveira,Geraldo César de; Bastos,Carla Elisa Alves.
Soil compaction directly interferes on crop yield. The objectives of this work were to evaluate the effect of previous cultivation with palisade grass [Urochloa brizantha (C. Hochstetter ex A. Rich.) R. Webster cv. Marandu] and the use of soil correctives on the growth and yield of soybeans (Glycine max L.) cultivated under various soil compaction levels, in greenhouse conditions. The experiment was conducted in pots (columns) of 0.2 m diameter PVC tubes, composed of two rings: the lower ring, 0.4 m in height, received the soil (dystrophic Red Latosol, clayey texture) without corrective and a density of 1.0 Mg m-3; and the upper ring, 0,2 m in height, received the treatments of soil correctives and density. The experimental design was fully randomized in a...
