| Most anesthetics have an immuno-suppressive effect on cellular and neurohumoral immunity, and research shows that total intravenous anesthesia (TIVA) with propofol has a greater immuno-protective effect than inhalational anesthesia in human medicine. However, in veterinary clinics, these effects remain ambiguous. | In order to identify mechanisms responsible for the anti-tumor effects of Toxoplasma lysate antigen (TLA), we used an in vitro 51Cr release assay to study the functional properties of plastic-adherent cells during induction of splenic cytotoxic activity by TLA. Cytotoxic activity of non-adherent cells was measured in all experiments after a 6 days incubation. Induction of cytotoxic non-adherent cells by TLA required the presence of plastic-adherent spleen cells. In contrast, rhIL-2 alone was able to induce transformation of cytotoxic non-adherent cells from non-adherent spleen cells. | Chondroitinase ABC (C-ABC) is expected to be a novel agent for chemonucleolysis. The effect of C-ABC was investigated by magnetic resonance (MR) and radiograph. C-ABC was administered into the lumbar intervertebral disks on the clinically normal beagles (n=5), in a dose of 50 μl (12.5 units as C-ABC). MR scans were performed pre-dose, and 1, 3, 7, 14 and 28 days after administration of C-ABC, and the signal intensity (SI) of the nucleus pulposus was measured. | 分娩後5か月経過している2歳8カ月齢(症例1)および分娩後6か月経過している3歳0カ月齢(症例2) ホルスタイン種雌乳牛が、食欲不振、泌乳量減少、頻拍、心雑音、頚静脈怒張~拍動等の症状を呈し、循環器の疾患が疑われた。症例lでは心臓超音波検査によりまた症例2では病理検査にて心室中隔欠損が確認された。痩削、頚静脈拍動、頻脈などの循環器症状に加えて、心雑音の聴取をみた場合は、分娩後数カ月を経過した成牛であっても、心内膜炎のほかに心奇形も考慮し、診断には超音波検査を行うことが有効と考えられた。 |

| To estimate the maternal effects of dog breeds using mitochondrial DNA(mtDNA) haplotypes in the dogs with several clinical disorders, 600 base pairs of mtDNA D-loop region were amplified from 365 dogs and were determined for mtDNA sequences. The diversity of the 600-bp sequences was classified into 64 haplotypes, including 46 newly discovered haplotypes, and the haplotypes were grouped into four clusters I to IV. Lineage analysis using the mtDNA haplotype indicated that each dog breed genetically comprises one or a few mtDNA haplotypes. | To obtain B-mode ultrasound images of mammary glands in dairy heifers at different stages of growth, 25 clinically normal Holstein heifers were used. The heifers were divided into 5 groups (n=5/group) by stage of their growth: 2-month-old (group 1), 5-month-old (group 2), postpuberty (group 3), mid (group 4), and late (group 5) pregnancy. Furthermore, the sections of mammary glands were observed grossly at postmortem examination in one heifer in each group. Ultrasound images varied with the development of mammary glands.
