Dynamic time warping for classifying lameness in cows CIGR Journal
AURASOPON, APINAN; Kaunkid, Sayan; Rattanawong, Tanadon.
Lameness in dairy cows is one of the most significant welfare and productivity issue. This work is mainly concerned with an automated detecting system for classifying lameness in dairy cows. In the proposed system, Dynamic Time Warping (DTW) is used to measure the similarity between two-time series. The first time series is the behavioral time periods of the cow used as the templates, which was collected while the cow was sound. The second time series is the behavioral time periods of the cow on each day used for testing. This process results in accumulated distance that is compared with a threshold value for classifying lameness. In the case of studies, three cows were used in experiments. The classified results show that the proposed algorithm can...

Power Saving Approach based on Time Triggered Architecture for Wireless Accelerometer System CIGR Journal
AURASOPON, APINAN.
The development of a wireless embedded system for classifying and monitoring the animal behaviors has become increasingly appealing in animal production and health monitoring purposes. In recent years, there has been emphasized on using wireless accelerometer system to identify the cow behaviors because this can offer significant data for efficient classification. However, while implementing such system in outdoor environments, the high power consumption of wireless transceiver is one of the main drawbacks and shown to be a big challenge to maintain especially when transmitting data through XBbee RF modules. To fulfill the requirements of power reduction, this paper proposes a technique based on the time-triggered architecture for controlling the...

Classification of the cattle behaviors by using magnitude and variance of accelerometer signal CIGR Journal
AURASOPON, APINAN.
Time periods of walking-grazing, standing and lyingof cattle’s life can be used to predict their health. However, famer cannot observe those in all the time. Therefore, this paper proposes a simple technique to classify the cattle behaviors by using the magnitude and the variance of accelerometer output signal. There are two steps of algorithm detection, the first step employed the magnitude of each axis for classifying the cattle behaviors into two groups: 1) walking-grazing and standing and 2) lying. After that, the second step used the variance of Y-axis to notify between walking-grazing and standing behaviors. The classification results were inform time periods of each behavior and tested with two cattle. The measured precise times of each behavior...

Dynamic Time Warping for classifying cattle behaviors and reducing acceleration data size CIGR Journal
AURASOPON, APINAN.
This paper proposes a method for classifying the cattle behaviors. An embedded accelerometer system has attached to the cow’s neck. Dynamic Time Warping (DTW) is applied to measure the similarity between acceleration data corresponding to the cow movements and the templates collected from the acceleration data corresponding to the cow behaviors. The results of these processes are the sets of accumulated distances whose minimum value is used to select a behavioral model. Two cows used in the experiment, the accuracy of classification was measured. The results show that the accuracy of the proposed system is more than 90 percentages for all behavioral models. Moreover, the three-axis acceleration data combined before sending through the wireless network to...
