Última Promising results in the seed culturing of the Manila clam <i>Tapes semidecussata</i> with a manipulated yeast product as a partial substitute for algae OMA Albentosa, M.; Naessens, E.; Léger, P.; Coutteau, P.; Lavens, P.; Sorgeloos, P.. The results are presented of preliminary trials conducted with <i>Tapes semiducussata</i> spat using manipulated yeast products as substitutes for unicellular algae in their diets. Findings showed that spat growth increased with increasing amounts of algae in the artificial diet; growth was very poor when no algae were offered at all. It is concluded that manipulated yeasts may replace a substantial part of the algae in clam diets, but complete replacement is not possible, yet.
