Development of Sclerotium rolfsii sclerotia on soybean, corn, and wheat straw, under different soil temperatures and moisture contents PAB
Pinheiro,Victor dos Reis; Seixas,Claudine Dinali Santos; Godoy,Cláudia Vieira; Soares,Rafael Moreira; Oliveira,Maria Cristina Neves de; Almeida,Álvaro Manuel Rodrigues.
The objective of this work was to evaluate the effect of moisture and temperature on the development of Sclerotium rolfsii on soybean, corn, and wheat straw. Wheat straw produced the lowest number of sclerotia. Intermediate soil moisture level (70% of field capacity), and temperatures ranging between 25-30ºC favored sclerotia development. No sclerotia were formed at temperatures between 30-35ºC, on any type of straw.

Survival of pathogens on soybean debris under no-tillage and conventional tillage systems PAB
Almeida,Álvaro Manuel Rodrigues; Saraiva,Odilon Ferreira; Farias,José Renato Bouças; Gaudêncio,Celso Almeida; Torres,Eleno.
A study was conducted in the subtropical area of Southern Brazil to determine the survival of pathogens in soybean residues under conventional and no-tillage cultivation systems from March to September of 1998 and 1999. The pathogens most frequently isolated were Colletotrichum truncatum, Phomopsis spp., Cercospora kikuchii, Fusarium spp., Macrophomina phaseolina, and Rhizoctonia solani. Other fungi isolated were Myrothecium roridum, Penicillium sp., Chaetomium sp., Epicoccum sp., Corynespora cassiicola and Trichoderma sp. The percent of survival of each pathogen varied according to the month and the year. Survival of C. truncatum, Phomopsis spp. and C. kikuchii were significantly reduced (p<0.05) from the first to the last evaluation either on buried...

Detection and identification of TMV infecting tomato under protected cultivation in Paraná State BABT
Silva,Rodrigo Martins da; Souto,Eliezer Rodrigues de; Pedroso,Júlio Cézar; Arakava,Ricardo; Almeida,Álvaro Manuel Rodrigues; Barboza,Antônio Augusto Lazarini; Vida,João Batista.
During an inspection in plastic houses in Sapopema, Paraná, 90% of tomato plants showed leaf abnormalities, probably associated with herbicide toxity. However, virus like symptoms developed in selected hosts after mechanical inoculatation. RT-PCR reactions using primers for an internal region within the movement protein gene of TMV and ToMV resulted in the amplification of a 409 bp cDNA fragment only by TMV primers. Deduced amino acids showed 100% identity when compared to TMV movement protein and 94% with ToMV. The RT-PCR protocol was efficient for quick and conclusive determination of virus species. The virus was purified and a polyclonal antiserum was raised for future surveys in tomato crops of Paraná. The partial genomic sequence obtained for...
