| One hundred and two blood serum samples from dogs referred to the Veterinary Teaching Hospital of Alfenas University, were submitted to the agarose immune diffusion and to the fast serum-agglutination tests addressed to find antibodies anti- Brucella canis and B. abortus, respectively. Five samples (4.9%) were positives for B. canis and none for B. abortus. This prevalence is considered by some as an alert for an epidemiologic and public healthy problems, considering the serious zoonotic aspect of canine brucellosis |

| Com o objetivo de avaliar o perfil sorológico de três amostras de Clostridium botulinum tipo C e três do tipo D utilizadas para produção de imunógenos no Brasil, determinou-se o índice de eficiência e o grau de homologia sorológica dentro de cada tipo. O índice de eficiência mostrou a mesma tendência para os dois tipos. Os consumos relativos de antitoxinas foram proporcionais nos níveis de 20, 200 e 1000 DL50, verificados através de curvas de neutralização que apresentaram inclinações semelhantes. A quantificação da variação do consumo de antitoxinas expresso em grau de homologia sorológica reflete uma similaridade relativa entre as amostras, sendo neutralizados 80 a 91,5% de determinantes antigênicos para o tipo C e 85 a 95% para o tipo D. | This study aimed to assess and standardize the ELISA and modified ToBI test in vitro methods in order to verify the potency of epsilon toxicoid in comparison with the in vivo TCP method. The following epsilon toxoids were used: NIBSC standard from batches 375/07, 532/08, 551/08, 373/07 and 378/07. These were evaluated using a TCP test, ELISA and ToBI tests. The results indicate that the correlation ratio between the dilutions of standard NIBSC toxicoid and absorbance values of 89.44% obtained with the ELISA method support the use of the curve to evaluate epsilon toxoids. | O objetivo do trabalho foi avaliar as características morfológicas como densidade numérica e espessura do pelame e comprimento dos pelos de vacas Holandesas predominantemente negras, puras por cruza em lactação na região de Montes Claros no norte de Minas Gerais. O estudo foi conduzido em duas fases, A: julho/agosto e B: outubro/novembro de 2010, utilizando 12 fêmeas Holandesas em lactação, puras por cruza de pelame predominante negro. Foram medidas as características de densidade numérica (nº pelos/cm²), espessura (mm), comprimento (mm) e a temperatura da superfície do pelame (TPE). | The prevalence of canine brucellosis was evaluated in the city of Alfenas, MG through the technique of agarose gel imunodifusion for Brucella canis and slow serum agglutination test with 2-mercaptoetanol for Brucella abortus. The prevalence was of 14.2% and 2.8%, respectively, for B. canis and B. abortus. The positives, characterized by animals above one year of age (77.8%), and mongrel dogs (56.2%), showed a prevalence of 50 and 48% for males and females, respectively. The canine brucellosis was prevalent in the city principally in dogs of outskirts. |
