Anakkapon Boonchuay; Somphong Choeyphan.
Chai Nat province still has some non-irrigated areas. Farmers in those areas can grow rice once a year with rainfed water. They usually grow good quality rice varieties for consumption in family and neighborhood. “Khao Jek” is local rice variety widely grow in Den Yai and Pri Nok-yung of Hankha district. The cooked eating qualities have soft texture and aroma. It’s the most favorite variety of local farmers. Chai Nat Rice Research Center collected this variety in 2004 and continuously improved by pureline selection, observation, intra-station, inter-station, farmers’ field yield trial, yield stability trial and promising line test. Results found that this variety is a non-glutinous photoperiod sensitive rice variety, having early maturity being harvested...

Bacterial leaf blight disease (BB) caused by Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzae. (ex Ishiyama). In 2007 was a severe outbreak in Phitsanulok 2 and ChaiNat 1 variety in the central region and lower north region of Thailand. The farmers’yield has been damaged. Integrated disease management (IDM) by applied the tillage combined with bactericide to reduce the disease severity in paddy field, that cultivated non-resistant variety to BB. To maintain yield meet potential of rice varieties or reduce damage to a minimum. In dry season 2010, research in paddy field of ChaiNat Rice Research Center by broadcasting ChaiNat 1 variety. Results showed that, applied the rate of seed and fertilizer according to the advice of Rice Department (RD) combined with sprayed bacbicure...

In wet season, rainfed area in Lower Northern of Thailand has has an abundance of soil and water availability which is suitable for growing a photoperiod-sensitive rice with high yield potential. However, favorite rice varieties often have low yield and are susceptible to rice pests. Breeding for high yield and resistance to disease and insect pests while maintaining good eating quality is, therefore, the major approaches in changing rice varieties for good qualities, increased yield and adequate consumption. A promising lines, PSL97060-17-CNT-1-2-1, was obtained from three-way cross between KLG88028-22-1-2-2 and F1 of SPR88096-17-3-2-2 and IR60 at Phitsanulok Rice Research Center. Selection in F4-F6 was subsequently conducted at Chai Nat Rice Research...

This study was carried out in the continuous irrigated rice cropping system during 2011-2013 by 8 rice research centers and Bureau of Rice Research and Development. Disease assessments were also conducted in the farmers’ fields in 16 provinces responsible by participating offices in the Upper and Lower North, Central, East and South of Thailand. The main objective was to investigate the relationship between meteorological data and disease epidemics through field survey and carry out experiment on continuous rice cultivation by sowing popular rice variety every month. Three significant rice pathogens i.e. blast, bacterial leaf blight and ragged stunt were collected for diversification study. Results revealed that there were disease epidemics in 19...
