Shortage of good quality rice seeds is the main problem in rice production system in Thailand. One of the important factors affecting quality and quantity of rice seeds during storage is the damage caused by storage insects which resulted in 3.2 – 4.5% weight loss. For the effective control of these insects, understanding of type, shape, life cycle and types of damages must be concerned. Five sacks of sixty kilograms of RD6 rice seed stored in jute sack were placed in 5 positions in the rice silo during January 2014-January 2015. Each month, 1 kilogram per sack of rice seeds was sampled to investigate types, number of the insects and quality of rice seeds. อิทธิพลของสภาพแวดล้อมต่อความแปรปรวนของลักษณะประจำพันธุ์ข้าวไม่ไวต่อช่วงแสง Thai Agricultural

Research was conducted in order to study the environmental effects on characteristic variation in the photoperiod sensitive rice varieties at Nakhon Si Thammarat Rice Research Center during 2011-2013. Rice varieties in the study were included Pathum Thani 1, Phitsanulok 2, RD31 and RD41. Results showed that rice grown in April having plant height, number of tillers per hill, number of panicles per hill and panicle length more than rice grown in January and July. The number of filled grains and yields were highest when grew in January. Rice grown in April had high percentage of unfilled grains. The influence of other climatic conditions did not show obviously effect on the growth of rice varieties in the study.

Rice seed accelerated aging for longevity evaluation in humid tropic was conducted in order to study the temperature and optimum duration for evaluation of seed longivity at Krabi Rice Research Center during 2012-2013. Rice seeds from rice planted in both wet and dry seasons were used. By storing the rice seeds in plastic bags at room temperature and every month rice seeds were monitored and quality testing, another part seeds were aged in nearly 100 percent relative humidity at 40, 42, 44 and 46 0C for 24, 48, 72 and 96 hours. Study on effect of environment on four rice planting durations (January, April, July and October) and four rice varieties (PTT1, PSL2, RD31 and RD41) was conducted at Ratchaburi Rice Research Center in 2011. The experimental design was split plot in RCB with three replications. Varietal characteristics, yield, yield component and meteorological data were recorded. PTT1 variety showed the longest maturity (128 days). Rice planting in April showed higher yield (808 kg/rai) than that planting in other durations. In addition, planting in April also showed the highest panicle length, number of filled seeds/panicle and 1,000 seed weight. KLG02008-19-2-4-3, an promising non-glutinous, non-photoperiod sensitive rice line had been derived from a cross of KLG96001-3-1-2 and SPR90. The improved rice had been developed through the conventional breeding and selection method. The single cross hybridization had been made in 2002 at Klongluang Rice Research Center. An promising line has an erect and moderately strong clum with about 120 centimeters for transplanting and about 112 centimeters for seed broadcasting, 118 days maturity for transplanting and 114 days for seed broadcasting. Viability and quality changes of brown rice are important to find out the appropriate approach of brown rice management in trade. Two experiments, (1) Survey on viability and qualities of brown rice in trade and (2) Longevity and quality changes of brown rice after harvest, were carried out in Pathum Thani Rice Research Center during 2002-2004. Viability of brown rice sampled from millers and exporters at the range of 0, 1-25, 26-50 and 80-100% were found at 5, 6, 12, 23 and 54%, respectively. Low amylose content, soft gel consistency and 1-2 aromatic level were found in all samples. Free fatty acid was 14.04-50.78 mg KOH/100 g starch. Storage is a major problem for foundation seed production. Occasionally, deterioration occurred before planting time and low germination was shown. The experiment on extending storability of foundation seed in hermatic condition was conducted in Phatthalung Rice Research Center between May 2011 – April 2014. The two varieties; Chiang Phatthalung and Phitsanulok 2 were used in this experiment. Seed moisture content of approximate 10 tons in each variety was reduced to 10.44 and 11.24% in Chiang Phatthalung and Phitsanulok 2, respectively. Seeds were then put in plastic bag and stored in hermatic condition (cocoon) compared to normal storage (control). CCS06039-KLG-8-3-5-1 is a non-glutinous, non-photoperiod sensitive and aromatic rice line derived from a cross between PSBRc54 and IR22. The single cross hybridization was made in 2006 at Bang Khen Rice Experiment Station (now Chachoengsao Rice Research. F2 to F5 progenies were selected at Klong Luang Rice Reseach Center during 2007-2008. The line CCS06039-KLG-8-3-5-1 has an erect and moderately strong culm; 110 cm height on transplanting and 105 cm height on germinated seed broadcasting; 117 days maturity on transplanting and 106 days maturity on germinated seed broadcasting.
