| The growth of the scallop ( Pecten maximus L.) has been studied in several stocks along the french coast . The growth in height has been first described by the Von Bertalanffy growth curve, and the paramete rs (especially K and Loo) compared between the different stocks. An attempt has been made to study local (inside a stock) spatial heterogeneities, as well as variations from year to year. Finally a modification of the Von Bertalanffy growth curve is suggested, whick takes into account seasonnal variations in the growth rate. |

| Daily increments have been found in the shells of many fossils and current bivalve molluscs, especially Pectinids. A daily periodicity in formation of growth ridges has been found in Pecten maximus during spat life and the first two years of benthic life, but this daily periodicity does not occur all life long. Decreasing of growth in winter and from year to year seems to slow dowm an endogenous rythm which would produce the growth ridges. For this reason, Pecten maximus does not seem to be a good "calendar" for ecologic events. [NOT CONTROLLED OCR] |
