Medium and large mammals in a Cerrado fragment in Southeast Goiás, Brazil: inventory and immediate effects of habitat reduction on species richness and composition Biota Neotropica
Rocha,Ednaldo Cândido; Silva,Jhefferson; Silva,Pablo Timóteo da; Araújo,Márcio da Silva; Castro,André Luis da Silva.
Abstract: The reduction and fragmentation of remnant vegetation habitats has been one of the main threats to Cerrado biodiversity. The aim of the present study is to make an inventory of medium and large mammal species in a Cerrado remnant and to assess deforestation influence on part of this fragment on the richness and composition of mammal species. The study was conducted in a Cerrado fragment in southeast Goias State, Ipameri County. Data were collected during three different periods (P1, January-June, 2014; P2, December, 2016 - June, 2017; P3, July-December, 2017) through direct (visual, vocal and camera-trap records) and indirect methods (foot prints, animal burrows and other traces) in order to register the mammal species. Jackknife 1 estimator was...

Reproductive potential of Chrysoperla externa maintained in different cage sizes in laboratory conditions Ciência Rural
Battel,Ana Paula Magalhães Borges; Moral,Rafael de Andrade; Rodrigues,Camila Alves; Araújo,Márcio da Silva; Godoy,Wesley Augusto Conde.
ABSTRACT: This study investigated the influence of cage sizes on the survival and reproductive potential of Chrysoperla externa (Hagen). Size of breeding cages significantly affected the reproductive potential of C. externa . Our results indicated that in cages smaller (7.5cm of diameter) than those usually recommended for the rearing of this insect (10cm diameter), females showed higher rates of oviposition. Reduction of space for rearing natural enemies in the laboratory is very important for developing biological control programs.

Predispersal infestation of Vochysia haenkeana seeds by Lius conicus Ciência Rural
Lourenço,Samara Letícia Oliveira; Luiz,Marcelo Felix; Jesus,Flávio Gonçalves de; Carvalho,Daniel Diego Costa; Hornburg,Michael; Araújo,Márcio da Silva.
ABSTRACT: The deficient development of fertile seeds of native forest plant species in Brazil limits the reproduction of these plants in various conditions. Among the limiting biotic factors in quality and quantity of the forest seeds, borer insects are quite prominent, before and after their dispersion. This study reports for the first time a host of the buprestid beetle Lius conicus (Gory & Laporte, 1840). The larval development of L. conicus takes place in the seed capsules of Vochysia haenkeana Mart. (Vochysiaceae), a typical tree species in the Brazilian cerrado biome. In two regions of the cerrado in Goiás State, Brazil, almost ripe fruits of V. haenkeana were collected directly from the plants. After natural drying, and fruit and seed processing...

Sexual castes of Trachymyrmex fuscus (Formicidae: Attini) performing worker tasks Ciência Rural
Araújo,Márcio da Silva; Oliveira,João Paulo Ribeiro; Souza,Danival José de; Oliveira,Marco Antônio; Jesus,Flávio Gonçalves de.
ABSTRACT: The main of this research was to report an atypical foraging behavior in a colony of Trachymyrmex fuscus, situated in "Cerrado" (savanna ecoregion of Goiás, Brazil). The colony foraging activity was performed only by sexual caste. Comparison of the foraging rhythm of this colony with another of the same specie where foraging was performed only by worker caste, showed that working time hours were very similar. After observations on the foraging behavior, both colonies were excavated in order to characterize them (nest size, population composition and estimating of the symbiotic fungus volume). Besides the foraging activity performed only by sexual females, other important observations were highlighted in that colony: low number of workers,...
