The Praedial Property Registration system has been presented as an alternative system to traditional registries for the formalization of immovable property. Much of the earlier design and pilot work for the Praedial Property Registration system was done by the Peruvian private organization, Instituto Libertad y Democracia (ILD). They claim that in Peru they "have formalized over 150,000 properties much more quickly, and at dramatically less costs, than traditional titling and registration programs" in three-and-a-half years during the early 1990s. GPS METHODOLOGY FOR CADASTRAL SURVEYING AND MAPPING IN ALBANIA AgEcon

This paper is a compilation of three reports written over the 1993-96 period in the development and testing of a cadastral surveying and mapping methodology to support land registration. The sections cover (1) fieldwork to evaluate options for cadastral surveying and mapping in Albania, (2) the results on defining and testing methodology utilizing Global Positioning System (GPS) technology and on the costs and benefits of various surveying and mapping options, and (3) further testing in 1995 of the newly developed GPS methodology.

In 1984, the Land Tenure Center embarked on a project to evaluate the experiences with land registration and tenure reform in Africa. The goal was to determine is African states been able to use tenure reform and land registration to provide greater security of tenure than was available through customary tenure systems. Donor agencies focused attention on the creation of individual freehold title, emphasizing the heightened security of holding, marketability, and access to credit under such tenure. National governments, on the other hand, were more concerned to see that land was used productively rather than merely accumulated for purposes of prestige or inheritance or as a hedge against inflation, and for this reason have tended to favor granting more...
