The knowledge transfer from science to practice – a survey with EU researchers Organic Eprints

Group members came from 12 European countries, six from new (Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Poland and Slovenia) and six from old EU member states (Germany, Spain, Finland, Italy, The Netherlands, Portugal). The aim of the work was to analyze the role of the scientists in a dialogue between them and the practitioners within the organic production sector. Another important aim was to find the best practice models of such dialogue as the examples to be followed by others. In order to reach this aim the survey with the scientists has been conducted by all project partners; every partner has conducted the survey with 10 selected scientists from own country. It is not by chance that the first Italian biodistrict was developed in Cilento, land of nature, culture, history and food traditions. The long‐term commitment and the remarkable efforts of various private and public stakeholders in support of Cilento Bio‐distretto have produced, over time, a number of interesting results. First, some important progress has been experienced in the development in the Cilento area of the organic sector, both in terms of operator numbers and land area. Second, the establishment of short supply chain outlets like, organic farmers’ markets, organic purchase groups and green public procurement and a number of other initiatives specifically targeting tourists have contributed to create stable market outlets for local organic...

BIO-DISTRICTS to boost organic production Organic Eprints

A bio-district is an area where farmers, citizens, tourist operators, associations and public authorities enter into an agreement for a sustainable management of local resources, based on organic farming. The first bio-district was launched in Italy in 2009. After 4 years, the bio-district now includes 30 municipalities, 400 SMEs, 20 restaurants and 10 tourist establishments and it constitutes a permanent workshop of culturally significant ideas and initiatives.
