Le projet GAMETOGENES vise à améliorer les connaissances des bases physiologiques et génétiques de la reproduction et des métabolismes associés chez un mollusque d'importance économique l'huître creuse, Crassostrea gigas. Il a pour objectifs (1) la définition de marqueurs clés de la gamétogenèse, de l'investissement reproducteur et du déterminisme du sexe chez une espèce hermaphrodite à protandrie irrégulière (2) la recherche de QTL de survie aux mortalités estivales ou à l'effort de reproduction dont le succès repose sur l'augmentation de la densité de marqueurs sur les cartes génétiques existantes (SNP en particulier) et sur les liens qui pourront être établis entre ces cartes de liaison et une carte physique (3) le développement d'outils pour valider la...

The purpose of this guide is to propose a complete methodological procedure for the creation of a database and a cartographic decision-aid system. It is illustrated by two case studies carried out in the area in the framework of the Indian Ocean Commission’s Regional Environmental Programme (REP), financed by the European Union (REP-IOC/EU).

A regional monitoring network of the GCRMN was formed just after the major coral bleaching event in 1998. The goal was to assist the Comoros, Madagascar, Mauritius, Reunion and Seychelles manage their reef resources within the Regional Environment Programme of the Indian Ocean Commission. The Node is now being financed for 3 years by the Global Environment Facility (GEF and World Bank) and the European Union to continue coral reef monitoring to strengthen the capacity of national networks to provide data and advice for resource management. The extent of monitoring has increased from 43 stations in 1999/2000 to more than 70 stations in 2002, with more than 20 stations in Marine Protected Areas (MPAs). Coral Bleaching in the Indian Ocean Islands: Ecological Consequences and Recovery in Madagascar, Comoros, Mayotte and Reunion. OceanDocs

During the period from January to August 1998, the largest coral bleaching event and subsequent mortality ever recorded had a huge ecological impact on coral reefs throughout the Indian Ocean. This event corresponded to increased seawater temperatures due to an ENSO phenomenon (Wilkinson, 1998). The full extent of the socio-economic impacts will depend on the recovery capacity of corals which, in many locations, are seriously threatened by human activities. This study documents the ecological status and recovery of corals reefs from theComoros archipelago (Comoros, Mayotte, Geyser), Madagascar and Réunion which were affected by the bleaching from January to August 1998. The impact of the bleaching at each location varies in its extent in time and severity.

The coral reefs of the Indian Ocean are characterized by a high degree of endemic organisms and biodiversity. Over and above their global importance, they are revenue sources for the coastal and insular populations, and play an important role in coastal protection, in an area that is subjected to strong cyclonic activity. Coral reefs are present in the five member states of the IOC. They constitute a federative theme for the region, which justifies the need to develop a “reef monitoring action” through a “regional reef-monitoring network”.
