Two experiments were accomplished with wild P. argus lobster postlarvae collected from the sea in pelagic collectors. In the first one, the effect of two foods (live and frozen Artemia) was tested on 0.17 g lobsters in a 40 days feeding trial. Significant differences were found (p<0.05) between the final weight, survival, weight increment, molting rate and NBI, the highest values were for live Artemia with the highest survival (93%). Mortalities using frozen Artemia were almost entirely attributable to cannibalism of postmoult lobsters. In the second experiment, the average initial weight was 0.26 g during 120 days and three densities (50, 70, 90 n/m2) were tested, the feeding regimes were live Artemia and pellet during 60 days the rest of time with... |

Two experiments were accomplished in (P. argus) lobster juveniles, for evaluate unilateral and bilateral eyestalk ablation. First one with initial weight 120 g the juveniles reach (237 g and 146 g) in 180 days, survivals (75% and 72%), NBI (50.4 and 27), growth rates (0.731 g/day and 0.231 g/day), SGR (0.47%/day and 0.16%/day) respectively; significant differences were found between unilateral and bilateral ablation on final weights, SGR and NBI. On a second experiment, using unilateral ablation with initial weight of 30 g the juveniles reach 130 g in 154 days, survival 66.6%, NBI 58.7, growth rate 0.651 g/day and SGR 0.95%/day. Significant differences appear between final weight, SGR, and NBI with control. The unilateral ablation shows the best records... |
