| The study presents a comparison of the disclosure practices, in the social balance, of the social indicators of female workforce participation in the agroindustries Sadia and Perdigão. The analysis of labor indicators can produce relevant information for investors and society in general regarding the protection and the stimulation of female labor. A study of these indicators can also be an important step in understanding the diversity practices of Sadia and Perdigão which, due to their size and social and economic contributions, are natural candidates for becoming benchmarks in the agribusiness sector. | Resumo O estudo apresenta uma visão comparativa das práticas de evidenciação, no Balanço Social, dos indicadores sociais relacionados à inserção da mulher nas Empresas Sadia e Perdigão. A análise dos indicadores laborais pode oferecer informações relevantes para investidores e para a sociedade em geral quanto à proteção e ao estímulo do trabalho feminino. | This paper describes a comparison on farmers’ participation in farmers’ organisations and attempts to explain why they prefer to carry out production and marketing activities by themselves. It also examines the implications of the findings for rural extension and related services. A total of 122 interviews were conducted with different categories of farmers and with the extension workers. The comparative analysis of two case studies (Cruz Alta and Pantano) showed that socio-economic characteristics were not very significant in determining the level of farmers’ participation in farmers’ organizations in Minas Gerais.
