Multiple Tooth Agenesis in Non-syndromic Patient: A Rare Case Report International Journal of Morphology
Borie,Eduardo; Fuentes,Ramón; Beltrán,Víctor.
Dental agenesis is a term referred to the absence of one or more teeth. However, oligodontia is a severe type of tooth agenesis involving six or more congenitally missing teeth, excluding the third molars. Oligodontia has a low prevalence and is a very rare condition. The aim was to show this case report of a 13-year-old female patient who presented oligodontia with absence of eight permanent teeth and condylar atrophy on left side. The patient had no history of any syndrome or systemic disease according to the anamnesis. Is very important to know oligodontia features to perform a carefully treatment plan.

Histological Evaluation of Bone Regeneration Means Freeze Dried Bone Allograft (FDBA) in Post Exodontia Sockets International Journal of Morphology
Fuentes,Ramón; Oporto Venegas,Gonzalo; Olate,Sergio; Rojas Rauco,Mariana; Borie,Eduardo.
Within oral rehabilitation alveolar ridge preservation following extraction is important. This research study shows a histological, histochemical and histomorphometrical evaluation in two cases of post extraction ridge-socket preservation performed with FDBA. In two patients dental extraction procedures were performed and sockets were immediately filled with FDBA. Six months later a biopsy of grafted area was obtained and rehabilitated through dental implant. Grafted bone samples were treated for histological and histochemical analysis. Bone tissue area was measured. Laboratory analysis of three samples showed inactive bone surfaces, neither osteoblasts nor osteoclasts were found, only osteocyte and osteogenous cells were observed. These findings do not...

Bone Healing in Transverse Maxillary Defects with Different Surgical Procedures Using Anorganic Bovine Bone in Humans International Journal of Morphology
Beltrán,Victor; Matthijs,Andries; Borie,Eduardo; Fuentes,Ramón; Valdivia-Gandur,Iván; Engelke,Wilfried.
The centripetal resorption of maxilla is a continuous process after tooth loss. For treatment of deficient bone sites, autologous bone grafts may be used, as an alternative, biomaterials can be applied which do not require intra- or extraoral donor sites. The present report we describe the use of anorganic bovine bone (ABB) based on three case reports under different modes: Membrane, rigid barrier and connective tissue graft. Clinical results show that under all conditions, sufficient hard tissue was formed to allow implant born rehabilitation in the former insufficient bone sites. Histologic evaluation revealed trabecular bone in an almost mature matrix with resting particles of ABB. Depending on the original site situation, two step rigid occlusive...

Use of Morphometric Analyses to Assess the Efficacy of the Technique of Resin Composite Bonded to Cervical Dentin with Additional Mechanical Retentions International Journal of Morphology
Kuramochi,Gisaku; Borie,Eduardo; del Sol,Mariano.
The structural changes and morphological derivatives of progressive dentin hypermineralization determine the bonding to its surface. A planimetric study and fracture volume estimate were conducted to assess the efficacy of resin composite bonded to hypermineralized cervical dentin with and without retentions by applying a shear test. Thirty-four premolars from adult patients were used to obtain a flat cervical dentin surface. The specimens were distributed randomly into two groups: 1) experimental, where hemispherical retentions were carved into the cervical dentin, and 2) control, where the flat dentin was maintained. Using a jig, a resin column was built into the dentin surface fitted with bonding in specimens from both groups, which were then subjected...

The Behavior of Demineralized Bone Matrix (DBM) in Post-Extraction Sockets International Journal of Morphology
Fuentes,Ramón; Issa,João Paulo Mardegan; Iyomasa,Mamie Mizusaki; Oporto,Gonzalo; Prieto,Ruth; Borie,Eduardo.
Autogenous bone grafts are considered to be the gold standard in bone regeneration because of their osteogenic activity; however, due to limited availability of intraoral donor sites and the need to resolve the demands of patients requires an alternative to these. Two male patients were submitted to implant surgery in two stages with 6 months intervals between each of them: the first was exodontia and placement of DBM graft into the socket; the second stage was the drill with a 2 mm internal diameter trephine in center of the alveolar ridge previously grafted with DBM and subsequent implant placement. The samples were analyzed under histological techniques. A very mature bone was observed at 6 months after DBM graft placement in the sockets, showing it to...

Bone Augmentation With Occlusive Barriers and Cortical Particulate Allograft in Transverse Maxillary Defects: A Pilot Study International Journal of Morphology
Beltrán,Víctor; Engelke,Wilfried; Fuentes,Ramón; Decco,Oscar; Prieto,Ruth; Wilckens,Mario; Borie,Eduardo.
The centripetal resorption of maxilla is a continuous process after tooth loss. For treatment of deficient bone sites, autologous bone grafts may be used, as an alternative, biomaterials can be applied which do not require intra or extraoral donor sites. The present report describes the use of occlusive barriers and cortical particulate allograft in transverse maxillary defects. This surgical approach was performed in five patients (4 females and 1 male, aged 20 to 37 years). Clinical results show that sufficient hard tissue was formed to allow implant born rehabilitation in the former insufficient bone sites. Histological evaluation revealed small amounts of newly formed bone with a predominance of collagen fibrous tissue and mature bone with very little...

Radiographical and Macroscopical Visualization of Fourth Molars: a Report of Four Cases in Maxilla International Journal of Morphology
Fuentes,Ramón; Borie,Eduardo; Beltrán,Víctor.
Supernumerary teeth are defined as the existence of a higher number of teeth in relation to normal dental formula. The development of supernumerary teeth can happen at different times of the life and can be detected either, clinically or radiographically. The relation between supernumerary teeth and nonsyndromic cases have been reported once in a while in the literature. In this report are presented four cases of nonsyndromic patients with fourth molars in the maxilla, which were described macroscopically and radiographically.

Caracterización de Estructuras Anatómicas Mediante Radiografías Panorámicas: El Foramen Mental International Journal of Morphology
Fuentes,Ramón; Cantin,Mario; Navarro,Pablo; Borie,Eduardo; Beltran,Victor; Bucchi,Cristina.

Insertion Area in the Mandible Masticatory Muscles for use in Finite Element Analyses International Journal of Morphology
Borie,Eduardo; Orsi,Iara Augusta; Muñoz,Gonzalo; de Souza,Luiz Gustavo; del Sol,Mariano.
To validate the virtual finite element analysis (FEA) results, it is needed that the mathematical models take into account the insertion area. Thus, the aim of this study was to measure the insertion area of masticatory muscles in the mandible in human cadavers to be used in FEA. The insertion area of the masticatory mandible's muscles was measured on both sides of fifty human cadavers throughout digital photos and software. The insertion area of the masseter was 7.47(±0.41) cm2, the temporal (inner portion) was 3.05(±0.13) cm2, the temporal (outer portion) was 2.25(±0.28) cm2, the medial pterygoid was 2.2(±0.23) cm2, and the lateral pterygoid was 0.8(±0.05) cm2. In conclusion, there is enough data to be used for the finite element analysis.

In Vitro Macroscopic and Endoscopic Analysis of Three-Rooted Maxillary Premolars and Two-Rooted Mandibular Premolars in the Same Individual: a Case Report International Journal of Morphology
Aracena,Daniel; Beltrán,Victor; Fuentes,Ramón; Borie,Eduardo.
The recent addition of endoscopy in dental practice has enabled clinicians to have an excellent view of the operative field, yielding highly successful visualization of anatomical structures that are difficult to access, both in oral surgery and endodontics. The purpose of this report is to provide an in vitro macroscopic, radiographic, and endoscopic description of the anatomic variation of the roots of maxillary and mandibular first premolars in the same patient. A 22-year-old patient was referred by an orthodontist for the extraction of all the first premolars. Once extracted, the premolars were examined macroscopically and then analyzed radiographically after trepanation and filled root canal systems. Subsequently, a diaphanization process was carried...
