ABSTRACT: Sunflower crops are grown in different regions worldwide. However, the stress caused by water excess in the soil impairs this crop growth and yield. The aim of the present study was to determine the response of sunflower plants to long periods of water excess during initial development stages. Water excess treatments were applied at the initial development of these plants at the sowing day, three days after sowing, at plant emergence, and at V2 and V4 stages. The treatments had different duration periods (0, 48, 96, 144, 192, and 240 hours) and were applied at three sowing dates. The current experiment is factorial and was carried out according to a completely random design. Two plant pots, treated under greenhouse conditions, made up the... |

The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of irrigation and fungicide application on the occurrence of diseases and cypsela yield of two genotypes of sunflower. The experiments were carried out in Santa Maria-RS, during the regular season in 2007 and the late season, in 2008. Plants were sown on 04/09/2007 and 21/01/2008, in a completely randomized design, with four replicates. A 2 x 6 factorial scheme was used, with the sunflower genotypes Aguará 03 and Hélio 358 and six fungicide application schemes, which were determined by the FAST forecasting system, as follows: FAST 16, FAST 22 and FAST 28, without irrigation, FAST 16 IRR under irrigated condition, in addition to irrigated control (CONTROL IRR) and control (CONTROL). Disease progress was... |

Sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.) is an oilseed crop that can be grown in different regions and sowing dates, but not all regions and sowing dates are appropriate for the crop development. The aim of this study was to determine yield and growth characteristics of sunflower on seven sowing dates, in Santa Maria, from 2007 to 2012. Five experiments were carried out in a completely randomized factorial design with four replications. The factor "A" was monthly sowing dates from the beginning of August to February and the factor "D" was two sunflower hybrids. Capitulum diameter, maximum leaf area index, maximum height of plants, weight of thousand achenes and yield were determined. In normal or La Niña years the highest yield is reached in September sowing... |

ABSTRACT Extreme natural events influencing soil water availability are major factors limiting yield and oil quality in oilseed crops. The aim of the present study was to assess the effect of water deficit and surplus water on yield, oil content and on the fatty acid profile of sunflower plants sown in main and second crop seasons in two soil classes in Rio Grande do Sul State. The experiment was carried out in Santa Maria, RS (Ultisol) and Panambi, RS state, Brazil (Oxisol), Brazil, and comprised three water conditions (water deficit, water surplus and control) in a randomized block design. The hybrid Helio 250 was sown in early September (main crop season) and in early January (second crop season) in both soil classes. Yield, yield components, oil... |

ABSTRACT There are several fields that require knowledge of air temperature variation throughout the day, such as disease prediction or calculation of chill-hours. However, automatic meteorological stations are not always located in the vicinity to accurately monitor this variable. In this sense, models that describe the daily temporal variation of air temperature can be used to meet this demand, and transform the climatic data series of conventional meteorological stations into an estimated hourly series. The aim of this study was to adjust and validate models for the hourly air temperature variation through data obtained at internationally agreed times (0, 12 and 18 h Universal Time Coordinated: UTC) and the daily minimum air temperature. The hourly... |
