Descriptions of Synagapetus marlierorum sp.n. from Portugal, Ithytrichia dovporiana sp.n. from Israël, Allogamus illiesorum sp.n. from Sardinia, as well as of two subspecies of Tinodes dives Pict.: T.d. jeekeli ssp.n., from Croatia, and T.d. consiglioi ssp.n. from Lazio, Peninsular Italy, showing an interesting geographic variability of this mainly Central-European species. |

Even a few years ago, the caddis-fly fauna of Cuba remained very poorly known. The situation notably improved, especially following the study of collections made throughout the Island, either by myself, or by Cuban entomologists (Botosaneanu & Sykora 1973, Botosaneanu 1977, Botosaneanu in press). At present, somewhat less than 80 species and subspecies are known from Cuba (2 Rhyacophilidae Hydrobiosinae, 8 Glossosomatidae Protoptilinae, 6 Philopotamidae, 1 Psychomyiidae Xyphocentroninae, 6 Polycentropodidae, 6 Hydropsychidae Hydropsychinae and 3 Macronematinae, 31 Hydroptilidae, 3 Leptoceridae, 2 Odontoceridae, 4 Calamoceratidae, 5 Helicopsychidae). But we can expect some 10 additional species to be discovered. These figures are reasonably high when... |

Species of three caddis-fly families (Rhyacophilidae, Hydrobiosidae and Glossosomatidae) are recorded and described from Dumoga Bone and Lore Lindu National Parks, Sulawesi, Indonesia. Described are Rhyacophila dumogana sp.n. (Rhyacophilidae), Agapetus aliceae sp.n., A. torautus sp.n., A. gunungus sp.n., and A. lindus sp.n. (Glossosomatidae). Apsilochorema gisbum (Mosely, 1953) (Hydrobiosidae), previously known only from eastern Australia, is now recorded for the first time from northern Sulawesi. |

Three new species (Smicridea (S.) meridensis and Helicopsyche merida both from Venezuela and H. cotopaxi from Ecuador), previously undescribed females of two species (Synoestropsis furcata Flint, 1974, and S. grisoli Navas, 1924), the immature stages of Smicridea meridensis nov. sp., Leptonema insulanum Banks, 1924, Nectopsyche gemmoides Flint, 1981, Triplectides species, Atanatolica spec., Phylloicus angustior Ulmer, 1905, and the cases of Phylloicus spec., Helicopsyche merida nov. spec, and H. cotopaxi nov. spec. are described. The cases of Ochrotrichia Mosely, 1934 (Metrichia Ross, 1938) are described, especially in relation to the development in certain species of a pair of dorsal “chimneys”, and their relationship to the similar cases of Dicaminus... |

The paper published 1963 by Illies & Botosaneanu on “Problems and methods of the classification and ecological zonation of running waters”, has attracted the attention of many hydrobiologists working on running waters; rather many of them used the system of longitudinal (vertical) zonation in their own studies, or/and critically discussed this method. An attempt is here made to critically review almost the entire bibliography on the subject published these last 15 years (about 50 titles). This review shows that meanwhile the theory of zonation has significantly developed, that it has vigorously stimulated research and discussion in different parts of the world, and that it is partly responsible for the progress achieved these last years by the... |

The remarkable stygobiont mysid Stygiomysis holthuisi (Gordon, 1958) has been originally described from St. Martin (Lesser Antilles), and has been found afterwards also in Puerto Rico. The present paper records it from an anchialine habitat and from a cave on Anguilla, near St. Martin. Comparison of the Anguilla specimens with the available descriptions and with freshly collected specimens from the type-locality gave interesting results concerning the variability of the species. There is generally good agreement between specimens from the three islands, except for the armature of spines of the uropodal pleopodite: in this respect, specimens from Anguilla and Puerto Rico both differ from those caught on St. Martin. Surprisingly enough, the endopodite of the... |

Two specimens of fossil insects in amber from Burma (burmite), belonging to the B.M. (N.H.), London, were studied. The first one, described by Cockerell (1917) as a new genus and species of Trichoptera (Plecophlebus nebulosus) belongs, in fact, to the Homoptera Auchenorhyncha. The second one is the first caddis-fly (Trichoptera) known from Burmese amber; it is here described under the name of Burminoptila bemeneha g.n., sp.n.; this hydroptilid seems to be the most primitive known representative of the subfamily Hydroptilinae, and is in some respects closer to the primitive subfamily Ptilocolepinae. These are the first records concerning the extinct caddis-fly faunas of the Oriental Region. |

The three species of the difficult Hydropsyche instabilis-group described by F. Schmid (1952) from the Iberian peninsula are revised, based on the types. H. hibera proved to be a synonym of H. instabilis (Curtis); H. infernale (here emended to infernalis) and H. ambigua (originally described as dubia) are good species, the first apparently closely related to H. siltalai Döhler, the second extremely near to H. tenuis Navas. Notes on the known distribution in Spain of the three species are added ( H. instabilis and H. ambigua are widely distributed; H. infernalis is known from the Sierra Nevada only). |

Two new Hydropsyche-species from the Jordan River are described; they belong to the guttata-group, and at least one of them was regularly confused with the West European H. exocellata Duf. H. batavorum sp.n. is an apparently rare species, whose phallus shows features never recorded at least for the guttata-group. H. janstockiana sp.n. is much more abundant, and it is obviously nearly related to H. sciligra Mal. (Caucasus, Iran, Asia Minor, Central Asia). Both are certainly potamobionts whereas the third Hydropsyche of the Jordan River System ( H. jordanensis Tjeder. belonging to the instabilis-group) seems to be rather a rhithrobiont. |

Seven new species and one new subspecies of Helicopsyche von Sieboid are described from Cuba, Hispaniola, and Puerto Rico based on adults; additionally four species and one subspecies belonging to the fauna of these islands are redescribed. Both sexes are described when correct association of females is possible. Considerations are made on the value of different characters in discriminating species in this genus. Presently 10 taxa are known from Cuba, 5 from Hispaniola, 4 from Puerto Rico (and 3 from Jamaica). An attempt is made to establish the affinities of these species. The West Indian Helicopsyche represent one of the richest assemblages of this genus in the world fauna. |
