Nematode and copepod densities were monitored for five years after the Amoco Cadiz oil spill and compared with two years pre-pollution data. Nematode density significantly decreases from the second post-spill year on whereas copepodes abundancy remains stable. Nematode species composition changes were followed using multivariate analysis. Alteration of the structure of the community is progressive but long-lasting, even five years later. Five species groups are considered as characterizing the ecosystem evolution. |
