The fishing activity on Argentine anchovy Northern stock (34º S-41º S) during the 1993-2011 period was studied (SW Atlantic Ocean, Argentine Sea). The basic data derived from the commercial fleet catch records. Annual landings reached a minimum of 5,900 t in 1999 and a maximum of 36,300 t in 2004. The largest catches, performed by the offshore ice chilling fleet, averaged 11,800 t. As of 2003 it was observed an increase in the coastal ships share and a decrease in that of the inshore fleet that in 2004-2011 represented less than 3% of total landings. The major activity, developed between 37º S-41º S in the August-November period, had Mar del Plata as the main port of landing. The average catch per trip and the mean HP of ships, that as of 1999 increased in... |

Advise on Biologically Allowable Catch (BAC) for Southern Argentine anchovy (Engraulis anchoita, 41° S-48° S) during 2012. To assess the evolution since 1990 and the current status of Argentine anchovy Southern stock, an Age Structured Population Model (ASPM) was used. Modeling of catches according to a four-month period pulses allowed to predict annual yields so as to get them close to the nominal catches officially recorded. Some independent indexes of stock abundance (eight acoustic estimates of total biomass and five estimates of spawning stock biomass obtained with the Daily Egg Production Method) and the proportion of individuals per age group assessed during the same cruises were used to calibrate the fitting. No stock-recruitment function but a... |

The life history of numerous aquatic organisms involves a pelagic larval stage, followed by a shift to a demersal or benthic existence (settlement) in the juvenile and adult stage. This transition and ecological, physiological and morphological changes frequently remain recorded like checks or marks in fish otoliths. As a contribution to the knowledge of hake (Merluccius hubbsi)life history, sagittae otoliths of larvae and juveniles with total length between 19 and 190 mm inhabiting North Patagonian and Bonaerensis waters in the Argentine sea (SW Atlantic)were analyzed. Using an image analysis system, otoliths microstructure was described and comparisons between left and right otoliths and between study areas in the following variables were realized:... |
