Didymocarpus corchorifolius and its allies (Gesneriaceae) Naturalis
Weber, A.; Burtt, B.L..
Didymocarpus sect. Elati Ridley, later reduced by its author to sect. Didymocarpus, is redefined and reinstated for the accommodation of 4 or 5 morphologically distinctive Malayan species: D. corchorifolius DC. (Pulau Penang, S. Thailand), D. antirrhinoides A. Weber, sp. nov. (confused under the former by Ridley; widely distributed on the Malay Peninsula), D. sp. (not yet adequately known; Pulau Tioman), D. sulphureus Ridley (on some hills of the main range), and D. robustus Ridley (endemic on G. Kerbau). Essential characters are tall, woody habit, bilobed stigma, and conoid pigmented glands. The species that have been associated with the above are surveyed. It is concluded that, with the exception of D. citrinus Ridley which seems to form a link from...

Towards a revision of Agalmyla (Gesneriaceae) Naturalis
Hilliard, O.M.; Burtt, B.L..
A brief summary of the present taxonomic position in Agalmyla Blume (Gesneriaceae) is given. Six new species are described, A. bicolor, A. exannulata and A. remotidentata from Sulawesi, A. macrocalyx from Borneo (Sarawak), A. samarica from the Philippines (Samar) and A. manuselae from the Moluccas (Seram). The plant long known as Dichrotrichum ternateum de Vriese is transferred to Agalmyla, under its oldest epithet, as A. elongata (Blume) B.L. Burtt, and two other early names of species from New Guinea are also transferred as A. chalmersii (F. Muell.) B.L. Burtt and A. triflora (Valeton) B.L. Burtt.

Beccari’s ascent of ”Mount Poi”, Sarawak Naturalis
Burtt, B.L..
In chapter VII of his book ”Wanderings in the Great Forests of Borneo” Beccari records his ascent of Mount Poi (Poe, Pueh) in south-western Sarawak, and subsequently Poi has been cited as the type locality for a number of species described from his material. The purpose of this note is to put on record the fact that although Beccari ascended the Poi range, he did not climb Gunong Poi, as that name is used on modern maps, but a more south-easterly peak in the range, Gunong Berumput (Gunong Rumput). In August 1962 I collected on Gunong Beruraput with my colleague P.J.B. Woods: the choice of this peak rather than Gunong Poi itself was made on the advice of Mr B.E. Smythies, Conservator of Forests, who said he thought we should find it more interesting. On...

Notes on the collection of Zingiberaceae Naturalis
Burtt, B.L.; Smith, R.M..
Since the time of Linnaeus taxonomists have said that Zingiberaceae need to be studied from living plants, and as though to emphasize this, too many collectors have thrust leafy shoots and inflorescences into the press, jotted down a few rather obvious field notes (or none) and left the taxonomist to do his worst. At first the trouble experienced was simply that of understanding the structure of a flower in which most of the petaloid parts are staminodal in origin. Individual flowers of many Zingiberaceae are soft and watery and often surrounded by mucilage. Roughly pressed, especially if pressed in the inflorescence, their structure is lost beyond recall. As time went on the basic structural problems were elucidated. But the number of known Zingiberaceae...

Supplementary notes on ‘Didymocarpus corchorifolius and its allies (Gesneriaceae)’ Naturalis
Weber, A.; Burtt, B.L..
Based on recent collections and field observations, supplements are communicated regarding the morphology, chromosome number and occurrence of Didymocarpus antirrhinoides A. Weber and D. corchorifolius DC. The plant on Pulau Tioman, formerly thought to represent eventually a new species, is definitely assigned to D. antirrhinoides.
