A obtenção de cultivares de espécies ornamentais é estratégica para o desenvolvimento do país e possibilita obter plantas adaptadas às condições climáticas de cultivo. Aproximadamente 200 plantas de um cruzamento intergenérico entre um híbrido de Cattleya e outro de Laelia foram submetidos à seleção massal na fase de desenvolvimento vegetativo, selecionado-se aquelas com desenvolvimento mais rápido e sem sintomas de pragas e doenças. The flower industry represents about one billion dollars in Brazil and the development of techniques aimed at flowering control is required. This study evaluated the influence of gibberellic acid (GA3) on the vegetative and reproductive development of young plants of Phalaenopsis FSNT 'Dai-Itigo' hybrid pink color. The application of GA3 was made by foliar sprays at concentrations of 0, 125, 250, 500 and 1,000 mg L -1. The length of leaves increased significantly when using GA3 at low concentrations, but leaf width decreased. One of the most important applications of plant tissue culture is mass propagation of ornamental plants. This experiment evaluated the effect of different concentrations of NH4NO3 and KNO3 and BAP on the in vitro growth of orchid hybrid Brassocattleya 'Pastoral'. Establishment of germplasm banks of ornamental species, together with breeding programs is fundamental for the growth of competitive cultivars of flowers that are the same or better quality than those developed in other countries.
