Polyembryony and identification of Volkamerian lemon zygotic and nucellar seedlings using RAPD PAB
Andrade-Rodríguez,María; Villegas-Monter,Angel; Carrillo-Castañeda,Guillermo; García-Velázquez,Armando.
The objectives of this work were to evaluate the frequency of polyembryony, and to identify zygotic and nucellar seedlings of Citrus volkameriana using RAPD. Twenty-five polyembryonic and eight monoembryonic seeds were cultivated in vitrofor six months. DNA from seedlings was extracted and used in combination with five RAPD primers to identify zygotic or nucellar origin of the seedlings. Environmental conditions of the year affected significantly (P<0.05) the morphological characteristics of fruitsand the number ofembryos per seed. Polyembryonic seeds ranged from 30.9%, 44.8% to 54.4% over three years. Morphological characteristic was not correlated with polyembryony. In vitro culture enable all embryos of each seed to grow, favoring the percentage of...

Characterization of onion (Allium cepa L.) varieties based on physical properties and seed performance Agrociencia
Herrera-Corredor,Carlos; Carrillo-Castañeda,Guillermo.
Abstract: Five cultivars (Cristal White Wax, Toro, Red Burgundy, Cojumatlán and Contessa) of onion (Allium cepa L.) were characterized according to: the weight of 100 seeds, germination kinetics, speed germination (T50) and seed protein analysis. Seed of Crystal White Wax was differentiated from the other cultivars by its low weight (0.30 g), since the weight of the rest was 0.40 g. Crystal White Wax had low seed germination (56%) and the highest delay of germination (T50 values were 78 h), while T50 of the rest was 52 h. Protein was isolated from seeds at the precise moment of seed germination. All cultivars were differentiated by their pattern and number of proteins resolved by SDS-PAGE electrophoresis. Toro and Red Burgundy showed the greater difference...

Recuperation of the high germinability condition of papaya seed through priming technology and bioregulators Agrociencia
Bautista-Calles,Francisco; Carrillo-Castañeda,Guillermo; Villegas-Monter,Ángel.
Rapid loss of seed viability of Carica papaya L. (papaya) and its high commercial price impairs the availability of high quality seed to growers. Certified papaya seed cv. Maradol was utilized to define practical methodologies to restore the seed germination performance. Seed was submitted to: 1) hydropriming: 4 d of hydropriming rose seed germination up to 84%, 250% more than the untreated seeds; however, the seedlings generated from untreated seeds accumulated more biomass than the other treatments; 2) chemopriming: seeds treated 4 d in a 10-5 M calcium chloride solution germinated 262% more than did the untreated seeds and in addition, the seedlings generated from treated seeds accumulated more biomass than the control seedlings. When seeds were treated...
