The WP6 objective is to design and implement the MaRINET 2 e-infrastructure. Within WP6, two key issues are addressed: “Data preservation” and “Data sharing within a VRE” (Virtual Research Environment) leading to these objectives: - Data preservation: a common policy compliant with international standards (RDA – Research Data Alliance) and European standards for Marine data (SeaDataNet) - Data access and service : a Virtual Research Environment (VRE) workplace based on common national and European e-infrastructures (such as SeaDataCloud) The MaRINET 2 e-infrastructure supports these via the following actions: - Collection and storage of MaRINET 2 experiment descriptions and results to secure their interoperability and long-term preservation -... |

An operational oceanographic system is being developed in France to monitor and forecast ocean behavior. It is composed of three projects: - Sea-surface observation using satellite sensors, - ln situ measurements from ships, moored or drifting autonomous systems, - Assimilation of in-situ and satellite data in an ocean circulation modal. Coriolis contributes to the in situ part of this system, with the objective of developing continuous, automatic, and permanent observation networks. The data collected will enable water properties to be mapped, such as temperature, and ocean circulation. (NOT CONTROLLED OCR] |

Copernicus is a European system for monitoring the Earth. COPERNICUS-CMEMS products and services are meant to serve all marine applications: Marine resources, Maritime safety, Coastal and Marine Environment, Seasonal Forecast & Climate. The service is ambitious as the ocean is complex and many processes are involved, from physical oceanography, biology, geology, ocean-atmosphere fluxes, solar radiations, moon induced tides, anthropic activity. A multi-platform approach is essential, taking into account sea-level stations, coastal buoys, HF radars, river flows, drifting buoys, sea-mammal or fishes fitted with sensors, vessels, gliders, floats. |

The increasing volume of data being produced, curated, and made available by research infrastructures in the environmental science domain require services that are able to optimize the delivery and staging of data for researchers and other users of scientific data. Specialized data services for managing data life cycle, for creating and delivering data products, and for customized data processing and analysis all play a crucial role in how these research infrastructures serve their communities, and many of these activities are time-critical-needing to be carried out frequently within specific time windows. We describe our experiences identifying the time-critical requirements of environmental scientists making use of computational research support... |

The MoMAR (monitoring the Mid-Atlantic Ridge) project was initiated in 1998 by the InterRidge programme to promote and coordinate long-term multidisciplinary monitoring of hydrothermal vents at the Mid-Atlantic Ridge (MAR). The major objective of the project is to study vent ecosystem dynamics using a multidisciplinary approach from geophysics to microbiology over a period of a few decades. MoMAR-D is a demonstration project of MoMAR, partially funded by the European network of excellence ESONET (http://www.esonet-noe.org/). MoMAR-D aims to deploy and manage a multidisciplinary observing system at the Lucky Strike vent field for 1 year. This large hydrothermal field is located at the centre of one of the most volcanically active segments of the MAR. The... |

The French program Coriolis, as part of the French operational oceanographic system, produces the COriolis dataset for Re-Analysis (CORA) on a yearly basis. This dataset contains in-situ temperature and salinity profiles from different data types. The latest release CORA3 covers the period 1990 to 2010. Several tests have been developed to ensure a homogeneous quality control of the dataset and to meet the requirements of the physical ocean reanalysis activities (assimilation and validation). Improved tests include some simple tests based on comparison with climatology and a model background check based on a global ocean reanalysis. Visual quality control is performed on all suspicious temperature and salinity profiles identified by the tests, and quality... |
