Music has been studied mainly because it promotes changesin both humans and animals such as pain control, increasedsense of well-being, and decreased fatigue and anxiety, amongothers. Research conducted with newborns, children, seniors,and others has shown that therapy involving sounds can producephysiological and behavioral changes such as decreased heart rate,cortisol reduction, and improved mood. These positive effectsrecently began to be studied in veterinary medicine worldwide aswell. In veterinary medicine, music has been used and studied asa way to promote environmental enrichment, acting as positivereinforcement and decreasing stress levels of animals duringhandling.
