Garbin,L.C.; Soares,A.S.; Mendes,H.M.F.; Cassali,G.D.; Vasconcelos,A.C.; Faleiros,R.R..
ABSTRACT This study aimed to histologically evaluate the quality of tissue repair in equine suspensory ligament treated with two cell therapy protocols. All four limbs of six animals were operated simultaneously to remove a fragment in each ligament using a skin biopsy punch. Two days later, intralesional injections were performed using bone marrow mononuclear fraction (BM group), cultivated cells derived from adipose tissue (AT group), saline (positive control group), or no treatment (negative control group), in such way that each horse received all treatments. After sixty days biopsies were performed for histological analysis (H & E, Masson’s trichrome and picrosirius red) and immunohistochemistry analysis (collagen type III). Histological findings...

Analysis of EGFR and HER-2 expressions in ductal carcinomas in situ in canine mammary glands Arq. Bras. Med. Vet. Zootec.
Silva,I.L.D.; Dias,A.P.M.; Bertagnolli,A.C.; Cassali,G.D.; Ferreira,E..
Biomolecular evidence has shown that ductal carcinoma in situ(DCIS) may develop into invasive carcinoma of the canine mammary gland, and mutations in proto-oncogenes HER2 and EGFR; two members of the family of epidermal growth factor receptors, may be involved in this process. The purpose of this study was the characterization of the immunohistochemical expression of the EGFR and HER2 proteins in the process of neoplastic transformation, supposedly present in ductal carcinomas in situin canine mammary glands. Fifteen cases of DCIS were evaluated, with a higher expression of HER2 and EGFR being observed in low-grade carcinomas when compared with high-grade neoplasms, and with a high positive statistical correlation in the latter. Results suggest that...

Morphological and pathological aspects of the rete ovarii in sheep (Ovis aries) Arq. Bras. Med. Vet. Zootec.
Cassali,G.D.; Nogueira,J.C.; Nascimento,E.F.; Cardoso,J.S.; Ferreira,D.L..
Sixty-four ovaries of adult woolly sheep from the Centro de Pesquisa dos Campos Sul Brasileiros - Embrapa, Bagé-RS, Brazil, were analyzed histologically. The presence of the rete ovarii was detected in 55 of the 64 ovaries (85.9%), located in the periovarian tissue, in the hilus and in the medullary or cortical regions. As also observed in other mammals, the rete ovarii of sheep is morphologically divided into three portions: intraovarian rete, connecting rete and extraovarian rete. Continuity between the extraovarian rete and the uterine tube was observed in five ovaries (7.8%), suggesting a tuboretial connection, as reported for cows and does. Pathological examination of the rete showed the formation of cysts surrounding the connecting and/or...
