Evaluation of Metarhizium anisopliae var. anisopliae Qu-M845 Isolate to Control Varroa destructor (Acari: Varroidae) in Laboratory and Field Trials Chilean J. Agric. Res.
Rodríguez,Marta; Gerding,Marcos; France,Andrés; Ceballos,Ricardo.
The effectiveness of the Metarhizium anisopliae (Metschinkoff) Qu-M845 isolate was evaluated in laboratory and field trials. It was previously selected for thermal resistance (at 30 and 35 ºC) and pathogenicity on Varroa destructor (Anderson and Trueman). In the laboratory, the first evaluations were carried out by spraying and increasing the concentration from zero to 10(8) conidia mL-1 on varroa adults. Lethal concentrations required for 50 and 90% mite mortality (LC50 and LC90) were 3.8 x 10(5) and 8 x 10(7) conidia mL-1, respectively (χ2 = 2.03). In the autumn field trials, three application methods (doses of 5 x 10(10) conidia per hive) were evaluated. The treatments were: a) conidia stamped on filter paper, located on every second frame...

Crude extracts of Drimys winteri bark to inhibit growth of Gaeumannomyces graminis var. tritici Chilean J. Agric. Res.
Zapata,Nelson; Vargas,Marisol; Monsálvez,Manuel; Ceballos,Ricardo.
The aim of this study was to assess the effect of Drimys winteri J.R. Forst. & G. Forst. bark and its extracts, obtained sequentially with n-hexane, acetone, and methanol, against Gaeumannomyces graminis var. tritici (Ggt). Ground bark of D. winteri was mixed with potato dextrose agar growth media at concentrations of 250, 500, 1000, 2000, and 4000 mg L-1 in Petri plates. Each extract was mixed at concentrations of 100, 200, 400, and 800 mg L-1. Petri plates were inoculated in the center with a 5-mm mycelium disk and were incubated at 24 ± 1 ºC. Daily measurements of mycelium radial growth were taken to determine growth rate and growth inhibition (%). A ground bark concentration of 978 mg L-1 was needed to inhibit Ggt growth by 50%, while extracts...

BENTAZON-MCPA EFFECT ON Fusarium oxysporum ROOT ROT ON Trifolium pratense IN GREENHOUSE CONDITIONS R.C. Suelo Nutr. Veg.
Ceballos,Ricardo; Cofre,Ximena; Quiroz,Andrés; Espinoza,Nelson; Palma,Graciela.
In Chile, the main factor in red clover {Trifolium pretense L.) stand decline is fusarium-root rot, which results in a reduction in yield. Fusarium oxysporum (Schlect.) is the most prevalent pathogen recovered from diseased red clover roots plants. Agronomical management of red clover includes application of broadleaf herbicides such as MCPA and bentazon. This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of bentazon and bentazon/MCPA mixture on phytotoxicity and root rot as caused by F. oxysporum on red clover, under greenhouse conditions. In addition, in vitro mycelial growth and conidial germination of F. oxysporum was studied. A reduction of 40% in crown diameter and 57% shoot dry weight was observed 30 days after treatment with a high rate of...
