Purification and improvement of local non-glutinous rice is a sub-project under the Rainfed Lowland Rice Breeding in Southern Region aim s to improve local rice varieties with high yielding potential and specific good grain qualities for niche markets. The experiment s were conducted by using randomized complete block design with four replications. Inter-station yield trials were located in Phatthalung, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Pattani and Krabi rice research centers during 2010-2012. Regional yield trials were experimented in Phatthalung, Nakhon Si Thammarat and Songkla during 2011-2012 wet season. The results from the intra-station yield trials showed the average yield of Chaw Jangwat higher than Chiang Phatthalung by 21 percent and in regional yield trial,...

This study was carried out in the continuous irrigated rice cropping system during 2011-2013 by 8 rice research centers and Bureau of Rice Research and Development. Disease assessments were also conducted in the farmers’ fields in 16 provinces responsible by participating offices in the Upper and Lower North, Central, East and South of Thailand. The main objective was to investigate the relationship between meteorological data and disease epidemics through field survey and carried out experiment on continuous rice cultivation by sowing popular rice variety every month. Three significant rice pathogens i.e. Blast, Bacterial leaf blight and Ragged stunt were collected for diversification study. Results revealed that there were disease epidemics in 19...

The effect of climate change may influence the intensity and severity in some rice diseases, particularly in continuous-cultivation irrigated areas. To study the outbreak of rice diseases in relation to climate change, the experiment using Split-plot in RCB design having 3 replicates was conducted at Phatthalung Rice Research Center during October 2010 to December 2012. The main plot consisted of 12 sowing dates, one month each throughout the year. Sub-plots contained two rice varieties being PSL2 and CNT1. Disease assessment for incidence and severity was carried out in each sub-plot. Meteorological data such as temperature, relative humidity and rainfall were collected from the meteorological station. Based on meteorological data, the average annual...

Rice blast disease is the major disease in rainfed lowland area of Thailand. The causal fungus of this disease is Pyricularia grisea Sacc. Variation of this fungus was higher than other rice pathogens. This report used near isogenic lines (NILs) to detect the variation, pathothype and virulence spectrum of the fungus in Thailand during 2002 - 2005. Trap blast nurseries consisted of 9 Thai local cultivars and 18 NILs were conducted at Ubon Ratchathani Rice Research Center, Khon Kaen Rice Research Center, Phrae Rice Research Center, Phitsanulok Rice Research Center, and Phatthalung Rice Research Center. Single conidia was isolated from infected rice leaves. Virulence spectrum of blast populations were screened on 18 NILs. Two thousand four hundred seventy...

Integrated pest management trials were conducted in order to test pest management practices in Phatthalung, Nakhon Si Thammarat and Songkhla provinces during 2011-2013 wet seasons. The data on population of insect pests, natural enemies, percent damage of diseases, percent damage of animal pests, weed species with wet weight, grain yield per rai, input costs, price of paddy and net benefit were collected comparing to the farmers’ practice trials. The results showed that the integrated pest management trials having more natural enemies than the farmers’ practice trials. The major pests were rice thrips, green leafhoppers, rice leaf-folder, zigzag planthopper, whitebacked planthopper, rice bug. Rice diseases found were blast and brown spot. The animal...

ประสิทธิภาพของผงเชื้อแบคทีเรียปฏิปักษ์ในการควบคุมโรคถอดฝักดาบของข้าว ในแปลงนาจังหวัดพัทลุง Thai Agricultural
Chanasirin Klinmanee; Souwanee Sribua.
Total of 402 bacterial isolates for antagonistic screening against Fusarium fujikuroi, the causal agent of rice bakanae disease were isolated from rhizosphere soil of rice . Out of them, 23 isolates showed antagonistic activity against Fusarium fujikuroi by dual culture method test. In greenhouse experiment for the control rice bakanae, the most effective antagonistic bacteria were BAK 20, BAK 48 and BAK 109 which had the disease incidence 23.57 25.46 and 37.05 %, respectively whereas the control was 72.31%. Efficiency of powder formulation of antagonistic bacteria to control rice bakanae disease was studied in field experiment at Phatthalung Rice Research Center, in wet and dry seasons 2013. The experiments were designed as RCB (Randomized Complete...
