This cookbook is to document the end-to-end processing chain of Delayed Mode Quality Control (DMQC) of Core Argo parameters. It provides guidlines on existing manuals, and explains best practices through case studies. This document was initiated after the 1st EU DMQC workshop held in Brest in April 2018, under the MOCCA project. Lately, this work has been undertaken under EuroArgo RISE project. The document is organized as follows. The first part gives some general information (e.g.: How to check quality indicators in delayed mode? What are the reference databases? How to correct pressure? How to use the OWC software to correct salinity? What are the common failures? etc.). The second part gives more specific information for the regional analysis (specific... |

The French program Coriolis, as part of the French operational oceanographic system, produces the COriolis dataset for Re-Analysis (CORA) on a yearly basis. This dataset contains in-situ temperature and salinity profiles from different data types. The latest release CORA3 covers the period 1990 to 2010. Several tests have been developed to ensure a homogeneous quality control of the dataset and to meet the requirements of the physical ocean reanalysis activities (assimilation and validation). Improved tests include some simple tests based on comparison with climatology and a model background check based on a global ocean reanalysis. Visual quality control is performed on all suspicious temperature and salinity profiles identified by the tests, and quality... |

With a limited number of properties (salinity, temperature, total dissolved inorganic carbon, total alkalinity, and oxygen) from a recent cruise in the tropical Atlantic Ocean, We use the simple and recent approach TrOCA (Tracer combining Oxygen, inorganic Carbon, and total Alkalinity) to estimate the distribution of anthropogenic CO2 along three latitudinal sections. In order to assess the quality of the anthropogenic CO2 distribution, results from the method are compared to the CFC-11 measurements. We discuss the large-scale distribution of the main water masses of the tropical Atlantic Ocean in the light of the anthropogenic CO2 and the CFC-11 distributions. Keeping in mind that the anthropogenic CO2 emission began similar to 60 years earlier than that... |

Introduction on Delayed Mode QC: Recalibration is generally not possible due to the no recoverable nature of floats, so float datasets are usually check to an indirect way. Here we present the application of a method based on mapping a set of calibrated data by objective analyzing to the float profile position. The method applied at the Coriolis Data Center is the method of Annie Wong et al (2003) [1] adapted to North Atlantic environment by Lars Böhme [2] to produce the delayed mode data for Gyroscope project in a first time. Recalibration is set up to correct sensor drifts by using historical hydrographic data. The used objective mapping method takes into account the high spatial and temporal variabilities of the North Atlantic [2]. Assuming that a... |

Any space-based observation and forecasting system is critically dependent upon in-situ ocean data, since satellites can only sense ocean properties at or very near the sea surface. 1n contrast, in-situ platforms such as Argo Floats provide the inside view of the ocean. However, despite the impressive increase in the number of temperature and salinity profiles from the Argo array, in-situ data still undersample the temporal and spatial variability of the ocean thermohaline structure. Mersea will contribute to the Argo program by filling this gap... [NOT CONTROLLED OCR] |

SeaDataCloud Temperature and Salinity Climatologies have been processed from the North Atlantic Ocean historical Data Collection including temperature and salinity in situ data of water column in the North Atlantic Ocean (from 10°N to 62°N for the east part and including the Labrador Sea for the west part) for period 1900-2015. Several versions are proposed in seasonal and monthly format for the period 1955-2015 and six decadal periods (1955-1964/1965-1974/1975-1984/1985-1994/1995-2004/2005-2015). A subset of the CORA dataset (Szekely et al., 2016) has been integrated to the SeaDataCloud aggregated dataset as external data-source to improve the spatial and temporal coverage. |

The SeaDataCloud Temperature and Salinity Historical Data Collection V2 for the North Atlantic Ocean includes open access in situ data on temperature and salinity of water column in the North Atlantic Ocean (from 10°N to 62°N for the east part and including the Labrador Sea for the west part) for period 1890 – 2019. The collection version 2 is a merge between the version 1 from which the delated profiles in the CDI portal were removed (list from Maris) and the collection of the new and updated data integrated after the version 1. The data of the version 1 were retrieved from the SeaDataNet infrastructure at the end of 2017 and the new and updated data were retrieved at the summer 2019 for the data integrated after the 30/10/2017. The dataset format is ODV... |

The SDC_NAT_DP1 product contains the North Atlantic Ocean monthly climatology for mixed layer depth (MLD) based on temperature climatology spanning 60 years (1955-2015). The MLD fields have spatial resolution 1/4°. The profiles of temperature combines data from 2 major sources, the SeaDataNet infrastructure and a part of data of the Coriolis Ocean Dataset for Reanalysis (CORA). The used climatology is the SeaDataCloud North Atlantic Ocean Temperature Climatology V1 (https://doi.org/10.13155/61810) done with the DIVA software, version 4.7.2. The product was developed in framework of the SeaDataCloud project. This product must be considered as feasibility study for the next phases, it is a beta-version and that further research needs to be done before its... |

In the past two decades, the Argo Program has collected, processed, and distributed over two million vertical profiles of temperature and salinity from the upper two kilometers of the global ocean. A similar number of subsurface velocity observations near 1,000 dbar have also been collected. This paper recounts the history of the global Argo Program, from its aspiration arising out of the World Ocean Circulation Experiment, to the development and implementation of its instrumentation and telecommunication systems, and the various technical problems encountered. We describe the Argo data system and its quality control procedures, and the gradual changes in the vertical resolution and spatial coverage of Argo data from 1999 to 2019. The accuracies of the... |
